=81FG=Clair_VR Posted October 22, 2022 Posted October 22, 2022 (edited) Hi guys, I'm sharing my settings and impressinon with a new graphics card Gigabyte RTX4090 gaming OC. I've been using MSI RTX3080 supreme X 12G model with Pimax 8KX. PC specs CPU: I5 12600KF RAM: DDR4 32GB 3600MHZ 16-16-16-32 VGA : Gigabyte RTX4090 gaming OC Summary for TL;DL Higher resolution and more solid 1% low FPS are very stisfying. I was chasing a P38, leaving 4 lanes of different smoke trail from the damages on its wings, in G14. Followed his tail from 150m~200m behind on the deck. I could see the holes made by 30mm. Evening sky was blocked by clouds, around at 1,000m. It was right on a heavily defended german airfiled with burning hangers. Lots of smokes, and Flaks were exploding between us. Kept solid 60 FPS throughout the event. 8Kx Large FOV, 6179x3940 and fsr 0.75 Ultra preset MAX Everything Distance landscape filter blur canopy reflection off HDR / SSAO ON MSAA x 2 Personal headset preference & setting Refresh rate: My Pimax 8KX 2075(old)version has only 2 choices of 60Hz and 75Hz. 60Hz is smooth enough for me. Below 59FPS, I feel stutter. 75Hz feels better for sure, but even the FPS stays above 60HZ, unstable FPS from 60 to 75 causing stuttering too. So I decided to lock it at 60HZ, and use the additional headroom for better resolution&options. *PP off, FFR off Resolutions: Pitool Render resolution: 2.0 is the answer for me. I tested and found that cranking up the pitool resolution to 2.0 is ~5% better in FPS when compared to 1.0, with the same amount of pixels on both settings. I also couldn't tell the difference in graphical quality. 1. pitool 1.0: steam vr 100% resolution per eye: 5008x3196 ( x1.4~1.5 of the native 4k resolution of pimax (3840x2160) due to the lense distortion I guess. 2. pitool 2.0: steam vr 26% resolution per eye: 5108x3260 <- this is better in performance with no grachical difference. (percentage value is vary based on the pitool setting, so I ignore it and only see the pixel numbers) 3080 12G options and conditions for comfortable 60FPS for MP -95~97%% Locked in 60-59FPS, but drop to 55 if I get close to a big city, large burning structure, right behind a burning&smoking enemy. In game: Graphics preset: Ultra Canopy reflextion: OFF (looks awesome, but..you know..distracting) All options maximum HDR/SSAO ON Cloud: low - depending on the server, a cloudy mission can be a hell if I set coulds to high/extreme FXAA x2 - It's hard to distinguish from FXAA x4 in my eyes, performance difference is very small too. So I jset it at x2 for a little more extra headroom for low alt furball above big city situations. With this setting, FPS sometimes drops to 55~ish in this kind of situation, which still playable, but feels uncomfortable. Resolutions(FOV=large): Steam vr resolution 6012x3836 per eye, pixel count 23,062,032px * fsr setting 0.72 = 16,604,663.04 <-final rendering pixel count per eye *Regarding openvr_fsr_v2.1.1, the juice out of it worth the squeeze IMO. Details in below. been testing alot with fsr mode, tried high resolution with 0.5 fsr or a bit lower resolution and 0.6~0.9 settings. sweet spot for the minimum graphical effect and fps gain for me is 0.72~0.77 4090 options and conditions for comfortable 60FPS for MP -Locked in 60-59FPS regardless of the alt, city, terrain, burning base, etc. Maybe few occational drops to 58fps on the logging graph. In game: Graphics preset: Ultra Canopy reflextino: OFF All options maximum HDR/SSAO ON Cloud: Extreme MSAA x2 - haven't tried MSAA x4 yet. Maybe later with normal FOV setting? Resolutions(FOV=large): 6176x3940 per eye, pixel count 24,333,440 * fsr setting 0.75 = 18,250,080px I set fsr to 0.75 to remove decimals in pixel count. (preset recommendation shows 0.77 for performance) Remember?render resolution for 4K per eye was 5008x3196 = 16,005,568px (pitool 1.0: steam vr 100% ) So I'm basically running 14% higher pixels even with the fsr 0.75, than native resolution with 4090. And I found more room to push the clarity of Pimax 8KX. If I do external view on the replay and a plane explodes to the ground, I get about 50fps for about 2 second. Guess the effect + MSAA is quite taxing. In a cockpit view, explosion gives no frame drop at all unlike 3080 12G. Maybe thanks for the extra VRAM? (VRAM usage was avg 5~60% throughout a MP flight sortie) Maximum zoom in on the ground, or low alt was causing fps drop with 3080 12G. With 4090, I don't have this issue except this situation: Rolling on the ground + looking my six + max zoom(gives me 45~50FPS) Higer resolution removed shimmering a lot, I mean A LOT. MSAA makes the outline of an airclaft more vivid, especially in rain. I looks like there is a white outline around the silhouette of aircraft. expecially when raining. Etc. Power consumption 420W at peak, 350W~380W most of the time. (3080 12 avg was 380W) Checked the +200 MHZ with 133% power limit OC can deliver 3~4 more FPS with 430 W of power consumption at peak. I didn't do technical logging for 3080 12G. Instead, I put that effort and time to enjoy the game while optimizing setups between sorties. So my apologies for lack of graphes and exact number to number comparison chart To conclude, I'm quite satisfied. Edited October 22, 2022 by =81FG=Clair_K2 2
