Meta not being of any interest to me,  I am looking around.

If HP is bailing on the G2, and pico may not cut the mustard, what else is there?

I saw the Sony PSVR2 is coming out and read a post from another flight sim user who was able to use a psvr and ivry.  I will of course wait to see if there are any brave souls who try it first.

The way things are going I may have to get that cardboard hmd for my cell phone.

Have you already tried VR? What headset? (If not quickly grab a G2 or Pico4 just to test water)

Currently available devices you might consider are marked in green in this table:

Marked in red not available yet.

And future devices:

new HTC (a small device), perhpas this year

new Valve Deckard, who knows when!

Quest3, Q42023

I would suggest Reverb G2 for first experience, Pico 4 not even out in the wild yet and verdict on it is still unknown. Reverb G2 is well known and has been in use and proven for quite some time.

HP may be bailing on future PC-VR devices but I highly doubt they would bail on support for the G2.

Thank you both for your responses.

I have never tried VR.  My current system is well below the requirements.  A bit of a risk, but I want to try.

I also wanted to wait to see what AMD brings to the table in a month or so GPU wise.

I would hope that HP keeps up support for their G2 if they do bail.

Decisions, decisions.

Which is your system?  Just to recommend the best headset for your case.

Since VR is not for all (I would say 10%-20% of people don´t like VR ... yet) you could test VR with a not top headset to experiment first.

Then, if you like that, you know that you will spend your money in having a better headset and better rig.

Thank you very much for your offer.

It's dual core.  Lets leave it at that haha.

Don't forget to measure your head size and your IPD. Having a headset that doesn't fit your head is a guarantee of a bad time.

Also, do you wear glasses? Some headsets may not have the space to fit them well.

You'll need to upgrade your system first. If you then want to go VR, the Pico 4 beats the G2 in every single metric, but please be aware you need to buy additional stuff like a dedicated router, two Ethernet cables, a long USB-c cable, and purchase Virtual Desktop in the Pico store. So you're looking at €100-€120 additionally to its retail price. If you want good sound, you also want to look at a BT4.2 or BT5.0 headset supporting aptX-LL to avoid any latencies.

Thanks Voyager, Fenris.

I have to admit that I had not thought of measuring my head for fit.  As for glasses, yes, those as well. VR prescription lenses was what I was thinking of.

I have been waiting and waiting to upgrade.  Hopefully AMD comes close with the new GPU lineup.  The 4090 is way out of my price range. Not sold on the 4080 either.

A dedicated router, hmm, well, I would prefer a cable.  I sit down to sim.  No leaping about.

Well, new system first, then I can see about vr.

Just be aware the AMD GPUs are problematic with IL-2. The issue has been measured multiple times and reported to dev team.

I wonder if the issue is DX11 drivers for AMD?  I read that AMD had done some work towards improving DX11 performance a few months ago.  I really wish that this could be solved.

The 4090 is out of my $ range.  Perhaps if the AMD cards are decent/close in performance, they can drive the price of the 4080 down a few hundred.  I can hope?

I would still want to see performance reviews on this and other sims.
