N° 601 Squadron - Airacobra I

 

Under the command of Squadron Leader "Jumbo" Gracie, N° 601 Squadron  was equipped with Airacobras I between August 1941 and March 1942. Based at Duxford airfield, these aircraft flew several sorties over Northern France (Dunkirk, Boulogne) from Manston airfield in October 1941. In all, 8 sorties were carried out.

The P400 (American designation) will be then in USSR, and replaced by Spitfire

We note the squadron insignia on the white part of the Fin Flash, and an "enlarged" version, instead of the traditional letter "A" for the Squadron Leader, with moreover his command insignia and the nickname Skypark XIII, on the two doors

Very cool! I've seen your uploads to the screenshot thread and it definitely has me tempted to fly some P-39 missions over the Channel
