Getting back in the swing of things?

Started up with some P-47 missions using the advanced instant action missions, and I'm impressed by the mission builder and very unimpressed by my performance. I keep getting shot down by planes I didn't even realize were there. 

 

I assume I need to clear my six more often but I'm struggling with how to do that regularly, without losing a ton of speed and without losing targets in front of me in the process. 

 

Is this just a case of needing to keep throwing myself against the wall until I get through, or is there a more effective way of doing that?

Yeah I have been doing this for many many years and my SA still is only mediocre I would say on a good day... you have to develop a quick scanning pattern as most pilots/ textbooks would tell you. good way to practice just set up a single mission 1v2 or 1v4 and just struggle through it again and again...
