Spitfire VB changes

With IL2 Great Battles encompassing western theatres since the introduction of the Spitfire VB, perhaps it is worth considering making some changes to it to reflect this.

 

1.  Make the Merlin 45 the default engine.  This was the standard production model engine when it entered service, the merlin 46 didn't come into service until towards the end of 1941.

 

2.  Create range of maximum power settings selectable in the hangar to reflect the Spitfire VB's incremental increases in maximum power clearances for the merlin 45/46. 

      a. +9 boost for when first introduced into service (default).

      b. +12 boost

      c. +16 boost

 

This will enable mission planners, PCWG and multiplayer servers to have a more accurate representation on Spitfire F VB performance over the course of the war.  

 

I admit, I don't know how much resources this would require nor the impact on other planned work. But if it isn't significant, I believe this is a reasonable request and of benefit to the sim.

If things like this are 'low hanging fruit' that can be done on the side, that'd be great. Would allow so many more scenarios.

Like 100 octane fueled p40s (for that boost!), or ju88 gondolas, or 190 canopies, and so on.

Different propellers and windscreens would also help add some depth!

Good to see this post. Because I am gradually recreating all my old "Big Show" missions with the French fighter ace Pierre Clostermann, I would really like to see some earlier Spitfire versions in the game. On the lead-up to D Day, Clostermann flew some very 'hairy' missions with the 'Spitfire VB, clipped wings (standard version of the aircraft) - which he called affectionately my 'Clipped, clapped, cropped' Spitfire. He also flew an earlier version of the Spitfire IX with the old style tail and 'E Wing' - 2 cannons and 4 machine guns. Apart from Clostermann, there were a lot of other famous RAF pilots and Squadrons that flew these aircraft as a lead up to D Day, then both during and after.

I would happily pay extra for these aircraft versions to be included in the sim.

That's the C wing. Clostermann's book is riddled with inaccuracies and half-truths.

That was my mistake not Clostermann, it is the 'C' Wing which could take either two Hispano cannon, one cannon and two machine guns, or 4 machine guns.

You are right, there were a lot of inaccuracies in his book 'The Big Show'. I have read some of his actual combat reports and quite a lot of his mission descriptions are accurate, some are not. He was a journalist by profession and his book is more a novel than a biography. Anyway it would be good to have a 'Clipped, clapped, cropped' Spitfire VB.

This is only gona happend if its new collector airplane, i would not expect that they go back to P-40E or Spitfire Vb or Fw-190A8 or Ju-88 and so on... and add modifications to airplanes already in game, no mather how big or small they are, its work that no one is paying them to do, and airplanes have modifications they need for DLCs they come with.

I wish modding was more of a thing in this game. Dont know if its to hard to do or limited by the devs but I think its the only way we coud get everything we want. Not sure if I want a clipped wing mkV or a c-wing ix the most ?
