Feldgrun Posted October 16, 2022 Posted October 16, 2022 Is it just me, or does the Bf 109 G-6 collector plane seem more responsive and agile than the G-6 Late? With extra power, the Late would appear to be more appealing, but when flying, it seems somewhat less agile and responsive than the regular G-6. I'm not sure how to quantify agility, but the statistics for the G-6 and G-6 Late show that the turn rate for the G-6 is only .2 seconds faster than the Late at sea level, and .6 seconds slower at 3000 meters. The empty weight for the G-6 is 47kg heavier than the Late, so is it just my perception, or is it a Flight Model issue?
oc2209 Posted October 16, 2022 Posted October 16, 2022 I hated flying the G-6 in Kuban. It feels like a dead slug when you're up against La-5FNs. And it felt especially awful when you flew the early portions of Bodenplatte (this was before the Late was in the sim). I'm assuming the G-6 Late is going to be a little heavier than the plain G-6 when the former has a loaded MW boost tank. Comparing empty weights won't show it. What makes the Late special (to me at least), is that it feels lighter than the K series. I'd take a performance loss for a minor agility gain; at least to a certain extent. 2
RyanR Posted October 17, 2022 Posted October 17, 2022 I think its just perception. My perception is that the G-6-late is a bit livelier, but that's probably because I can't recall if/when MW50 was involved. I think part of the "problem" is that the G-6/G-6-Late arrive as Allied fighters start to get really good. The late-Kuban gets difficult. Bodenplatte is just brutal for the Luftwaffe. -Ryan
[CPT]Crunch Posted October 17, 2022 Posted October 17, 2022 Also an aircraft initiating maneuvers at slower speeds is more agile.
percydanvers Posted October 17, 2022 Posted October 17, 2022 I can't speak to any of the technical data but my impression is the exact opposite. Going from the 1943 G-6 to the 1944 G-6 feels like shedding a heavy coat.
