Barn-Owl Posted October 15, 2022 Posted October 15, 2022 Greetings: For those who use the Virpil CM3 throttle, I have a question: I use the throttle for IL-2 BOS. In desktop mode, I am able to gradually zoom in/out without problems (I use the "z-slider" on the throttle for this). The Virpil CM3 throttle also has a "flaps" lever. When flying IL-2 BOS in VR mode, the "z-slider" does not work as a zoom. I also cannot use the flaps axis on the throttle for lowering/raising flaps. It seems that there is a way to get the Virpil software to allow one to use these axis as buttons, but I have not figured this out. Have any of you done this with these two axis? If you have, then please post pictures of your Virpil software setup and how you managed to do this. Note: I followed some Youtube videos for this, but it still did not work, so I am not sure what the heck I am doing wrong. On another note: if one has a good Virpil throttle profile for IL-2 BOS, I would be grateful if one would shares the profile. Thanks in advance.
Lusekofte Posted October 15, 2022 Posted October 15, 2022 In VR you must use button for zoom you find it in Cameron settings if I remember correctly regarding flaps handle Yes a Gentleman called murf said he had done it before, and asked in hardware section the very same question a while back. I'm pretty sure you can set this up in the Virpil SW (I know VKB's SW allows it). In a pinch - and since I think Virpil's SW is just as confusing to the uninitiated as VKB's - you could use a 3rd party app to do it. I use Joy2Key for some stuff and turning an axis into two keys is super easy with that thing. Not sure if you can go axis to buttons in it, but that's just a question of mapping two keyboard keys in the game to the function you wish to control with that axis. Say: Axis up = "Z" (in Joy2key) = "Max Zoom" in IL-2's keymapper Axis down = "T" = "Min Zoom" in IL2's keymapper. As Lusekofte stated: Sadly, there's no way to use "custom snap view" to quickly move in on the gunsight in VR, nor does the zoom via axis work. Only function I was able to make work are those pre-defined zoom stages via keypress/button and I *think* max zoom also works. I wouldn't bother with Zoom level 3 or "max" for gunnery though... it's way too high a zoom and confuses the hell out of me. Only really useful for spotting IMO. I put two of the lower zoom stages onto my WHT's boat-switch. Flick forward = high zoom, flick to neutral = normal view/zoom off, flick back = low zoom. That way I don't have to push and hold to stay zoomed in, since the boat-switch is a toggle. S.
dburne Posted October 16, 2022 Posted October 16, 2022 (edited) @Friction I see you have engaged with Imacken over on the Virpil forums, if anyone can get you sorted it is him - he knows his stuff on the Virpil software for sure. Edited October 16, 2022 by dburne
