dawud Posted October 13, 2022 Posted October 13, 2022 I got hit with a 20mm and Wow.. the New DVD/Dynamic Visual Damage-model looks absolutly stunning!I It´s even more impressive in VR, you can really see into the plane and the Fuselage, deforms. poor donkey.. Thank you Dev´s <3 I should have made a gif to show the depth of this impact, it´s more than just a simple bump-map. But my VR-Videomaking-Skills, are somewhat limited. 3 1 4
RyanR Posted October 13, 2022 Posted October 13, 2022 My opinion is that getting shot up has never been this much fun! I'm guessing that it's a texture and a normal map layered on top of the regular UV stuff.... which I think is a brilliant way to do it. There's some occasional repetition in the patterns, and sometimes (say, on the trailing edge of the wing) the "hole" looks deeper than the wing is thick. But who cares??!! The effect is utterly fantastic. No doubt they'll tune the DVD system over time. Combine this with the new damage model from the previous release, and things have gotten really interesting. I think the 7.62/.303 caliber MG's have become effective, and that definitely changes some things in BoM and BoS. The devs definitely deserve some props. Speaking of props, the new props are super cool, too. -Ryan 1
I./JG52_Woutwocampe Posted October 13, 2022 Posted October 13, 2022 (edited) Certainely looks good when my own wingman obliterates me with 20mm shells. (Not really a) joke aside, I like dvd, a lot. Edited October 13, 2022 by I./JG52_Woutwocampe 1
Bilbo_Baggins Posted October 14, 2022 Posted October 14, 2022 (edited) Boom, about to lose a right arm to a 20mm HE Fantastic update in all facets, devs! Edited October 14, 2022 by Bilbo_Baggins 3
dawud Posted October 14, 2022 Author Posted October 14, 2022 Amazing Sceenshots. As a VR-Enthusiast, i have to say this game does not look like it´s engine is from 2014. Quote Combine this with the new damage model from the previous release, and things have gotten really interesting. Lucklily the time where all the German/20mm guns where OP, and .50 cal didnt do a thing, are gone. I love the work, the dev´s do.
TheWarsimmer Posted October 14, 2022 Posted October 14, 2022 I've been waiting for this forever. It was announced way back around when TC crew came out. For a while I was afraid DVD was abandoned, and yet here we are. Love it. 1 3
RyanR Posted October 14, 2022 Posted October 14, 2022 The 20mm craters are even "tuned" for the wood frame of the Yak! -Ryan 5
Trooper117 Posted October 14, 2022 Posted October 14, 2022 That's not historical... 'Stalin Wood' cannot be damaged like that! 2 5 1
dawud Posted October 14, 2022 Author Posted October 14, 2022 I also noticed the Particles changing, depending on the material hit, there really is a high level of detail. I love the depth of the new holes created and all the grey specks, of busted paintjob! <3
[CPT]Crunch Posted October 14, 2022 Posted October 14, 2022 (edited) Doing some ship strike practice in a Tempest and took a flack round right into the intake scoop, the corresponding engine damage was convincing and the chunks missing with holes in the radiators and intake lip looked spectacular. It actually tore part of the lip away and than embedded into the rads. From the cockpit view had a minor hole or two in the forward wings and was wondering why the motor was smoked, got the answer on external view. The instant engine RPM fluctuations and vibration sort of lines up with the prop getting knackered and unbalanced, reduced RPM's but the temps shot up till the engine was cooked a few minutes later. Well done. Edited October 14, 2022 by [CPT]Crunch 3 2

Scanned the whole plane, and circled the camera arround plenty of times. Not a single impact, either they forgot to implement the shrapnell of the AAA, and only projectiles do DVD or it´s just the P39 is buggy. First time, having to bring a plane home.. without visible damage XD I mean i could have cheated and just damdaged the Engine myself but then there is still the fuel-leak. edit\ next time i´ll make some more screenshots everything Video-record/screenshot-related, is a hassle in VR Edited October 16, 2022 by dawud

I have a button on my throttle that I depress to take a screenshot. I have vr screen display set for 1 eye in startup.config so I get a full screen image wherever I am looking. It’s slightly fisheyed, but not badly. For tracks, I flip a toggle on the throttle to record and the icon displays while recording. Another flip ends it. Edited October 17, 2022 by Jaegermeister

Voice attack is also a great option for VR, and doesn't take up a precious hotas button. One of the best gaming related 10 bucks I've spent. 2

Squad commands, the escape key, pause, track record, FPS indicator on/off, all kinds of things are mapped to it. Seriously couldn't do without and I agree it's some of the best money I've spent. 1

That would all go to cr@p for me when the wife comes in talking, the doorbell rings and the dogs go nuts… It also might be an issue during the nice quiet fly time I get early in the morning before the house wakes up. I’d rather memorize my Warthog Hotas and throttle and 40 buttons and switches on a keypad and button box. I can’t use a keyboard in VR, I agree it’s a problem.
TheWarsimmer Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 I have the same situation- two kids and a wife- there is NEVER a quiet moment in the house. I set the mic down low and have managed to get it where VA only picks up voices directly speaking into the mic. It isn't a problem, even with the sounds of screaming children, TVs in the background, and rampaging destruction tearing down my living room. You can do it. 1

There is a push to talk button in voiceattack. I even have mine configured so the ptt key on Voiceattack is a Push to Mute button on Discord, this way I'm not bothering squadmates with my commands. 1
RyanR Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 The 20mm cannon holes are even different between the wooden structure and metal structure on the IL-2! -Ryan 1
Voyager Posted October 23, 2022 Posted October 23, 2022 Been getting back into things with the P-47, and yeah, I'm getting a real good view of the new damage model. Very impressive. Just need to get to a point where it's not quite so much my plane so often...
Youtch Posted October 23, 2022 Posted October 23, 2022 To enjoy the full blast of damage model, you can turn on the "invulnerability", and get yourself in the middle of 8 planes with different type of armament 1
nachinus Posted October 23, 2022 Posted October 23, 2022 (edited) Do you guys find that with the latest changes in DM there is more stuff coming out of planes when you shoot at them than before? I mean dangerously coming out. I've had two episodes of ruining my prop with debris in the last 2 days. Shooting too close seems more dangerous than before. It's kind of cool, though. Its...kind of cool but the fact that the outcome is always the same (engines stops/damaged prop) is annoying.
