Request winter Normandy map

Recommended Posts

Hi,

In order to be able to script numerous missions all the way through the war, it would be interesting to see the Normandy map in autumn and winter versions too.

Is that planned by our beloved devs?

I think at the moment a spring map would be more important. The summer map we have right now just doesn't fit for the careers April-May 1944 periode. There are much too many yellow fields for this time of the year.

When some modders can turn the kuban map into north africa they hopfully wil try to make a wintermap for normandy aswel ??

...although this image also shows some of the technical limitations. It's not possible to change the textures of the cliffs, nor of the British villages. The rest looks pretty believable already, but it's simply not possible to get winter versions of these things without a huge amount of effort that I'm simply not able to put into this.

You've been to England in Winter... back in the 1940s? ?

But what AEtheIraedUnraed has made is better than nothing. There are other shortcomings in this sim that guys are always complaining about and they paid for them. Here’s a guy offering something for nothing which may not be exactly what some wished for ( so they don’t have to use it) but maybe the rest really appreciate what he’s done.
Sir, thank you for all your additions you’ve offered freely and I for one really appreciate your tremendous abilities and efforts at making this sim better.

Aren't the building textures in the locations.gtp family of files? Not sure how you know which file belongs to normandy though. All the buildings seem to be in there together. Unpacking them seems to give you a buildings folder and a blocks folder. That said I know next to nothing about skinning etc

They are in one of the .gtp files indeed, as well as the cliff textures, but

1) I'm not a skinner, and

2) the texture filenames are referenced inside the .mgm files, so one would need to also edit all 3d models as well as include those with the download.

I'd love to have a 41-42 version as well. I've de-tarmac'd Manston myself for some cross-Channel Rhubarb and Hurribomber action, which is fairly easy to do, and looks fairly credible at least from a distance, but it would be nice with an official version. I assume there'd be fewer airfields in Southern England earlier on too, but I'm not sure.

Any update on this map? I'll even take work in progress files, I just need anything that puts snow on the ground of Normandy for a mission

I saw a YouTube video recently where a guy was using a mod of a light snow map.  I wish we had something like that, although I suspect we might as I recall FC3/4 including early spring / late fall seasons.
