Absolutely gorgeous!

While the threads go crazy with 190 speculation I thought I'd break with tradition and actually fly the game instead. So beautiful on a clear moonlit night even though my grand total in 2 flights was a single searchlight kill! Those emplacements for the 88mm actually work - 2 bombs destroyed the emplacement edges but the gun kept firing. Not sure what the answer is. Bigger bombs? 10 Smaller bombs? Didn't want to go under 2000m because that 20mm is scary.

BTW nice that the flame dampeners work on the exhausts on this plane.

I wish you were in the states Tatarenko, your'e someone I would enjoy flying with I think.

My ping is terrible on the EU servers. US Expert is my only option.

Nice pics!

Great idea and very nice pictures! BoS is definitely visually spectacular...even at night!

Yes, these searchlights are also in ROF. They have always been very nice.

I have ping of about 200 on EU servers from the states and it is still flyable. Seems to me that as long as it's not on red, it's ok. Or at least good enough, or something...

Very nice pictures Tatarenko :salute:

Down in Aus we have 340 ping for the EU server, I've flown it anyway and its been fine.

Thank you for the compliment. My favourite flights are with a couple of others trying to do something together. There's so much more than just dogfighting.

Ah Ian I was disappointed, expected to find some fine Russian damsel...

Regarding bombs, what you need is the Stuka 'tallboy' I would imagine that would take out the whole works in one near miss.

Yeah but you start warping when viewed by other players which is annoying to them and not really fair.

I like to make sure I'm safely in the green.

That's the problem with high pingers, they think their game is fine and don't realise they're wrecking the game for others.

On other games, when running servers, I'd run a script that kicked people with a ping greater than about 150.

There were/will be plenty of serves to choose from, select one nearer your home and you'll be fine.

This. Sometimes i see one thats warping around like crazy. I dont even bother to attack.

Try Flying at night with overcast and some wind. Its ammazing seeing all the snow particals below the clouds then climb up above the weather and its amazing when you burst through its so amazing and peacefull looking at all the stars

Hahaha Marco I'm also Austrayan but live in Germany, I've seen you on the server! and believe me it's not fine for the other players, you were jumping around all over the place...

Yes it looks great with turbulence and wind and snow and the moon shining in patches through the overcast. Magical!

Ping has nothing to do with warping

Posted (edited)

Yup they are right.

Pingers feel fine but everyone else suffers. Warping comes from the delay in sending/receiving packets, they tend to come through in batches the faster they need to update rather than a uniform stream, this is also known as rubber banding too.

This was why continental servers were set I'm guessing, although really there should be an oceania server for the diggers down under.

Switching off "seed after download" when using MP might also help a bit. Unless the game stops seeding automatically when entering MP, which i don't think it does (but have not checked).

And yes, those searchlights are fantastic and that's actually the main reason why i'm looking forward to the He-111.

Dunno what is the limit then, I as I said, I have been flying with ping of about 200 in EU server with mate flying from Europe and he never reported any warping from my part. If I am in Finland, my ping to EU servers tend to be around 150. Maybe this starts to be an issue if ping is shown red?

Posted (edited)

A ping of 200 shouldn't be too bad really, I'd say the rubber banding is a real issue around 300 - 400 ping. I can notice it at 150 ping but it's so small.

Any ping above 50 is bad.

It's the other guy's ping that's the problem - you won't notice your own plane warping.

That might be a bit far.

i show well in the green at 60-70

There are solutions to the problem (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lag#Solutions_and_lag_compensation), and many games have implemented these solutions. War Thunder, in my opinion, has mastered it.

I've played War Thunder with a ping of 400 ms and I still got shot down by others as always (normal ping is 250 ms for me), and I shot down others too. No one complained about me rubber banding on these occasions, because the server won't let it happen. What happens is that at higher pings YOU will start to lose control of your aircraft and start teleporting to new positions, because the server will do something like this: "Dude, your last update came too late, so I will NOT consider it. I don't care if you pulled up, left or right during this time. THIS is your new position based on the path your plane took since we last communicated. Update YOUR position and continue from there because this was already sent to the other players. Oh, and by the way, you got shot on your left wing, cheers!". So YOU will see your own plane teleporting to the new position the server gave you. The other players are not affected by this and will not see you rubber banding at all. And in War Thunder, this teleporting only starts at very high pings (around 500 I think). I play it with a ping of 250 ms as if I it were 50 ms.

So if you have a low ping and see someone with a high ping rubber banding on the server, you can be damn sure that this is a design flaw in the servers netcode. IL-2 will never have a player base as large as War Thunder, so it will be very unlikely that there will be a server close to everyone. I think some attention should be put into this issue before final release, because this could affect overall multiplayer experience.

I'm in trouble then. On the best nights my ping is over 100 to the U.S. servers and I'm in Texas. It runs around 180 to the EU servers.

Hey Tater, I just did this night sortie with the PE-2.  I can tell you it was IMMENSLY satisfying dropping 4 250's on those spot lights from 5000k.  The game looks great at night.

I did do some rocket launching as well, and I was slightly underwhelmed by the lighting from the rockets.  I feel they could be much brighter.  But then again.  I have ZERO clue how bright they were in real life.

Yes I hope we'll see some night missions.

As for the rockets, there should be a big flash when they launch but the rocket motor burns out quickly, maybe 300m?
