Best flatscreen setup up to 100 cm wide?

Hey,

I need advice on upgrading my current screen (photos below). No, I'm not interested in headset, if it happens it will be separate upgrade.

The screen space over my cockpit you can see on picture is almost exactly 100 cm wide. My current 2560x1440 screen is about 70cm wide, so there is about 15 cm on each side.

Unfortunately, most gaming screens I see are either 80 cm or 120 cm, so they won't fill the gap perfectly. I need something less obvious.

- Do you use a screen/TV that is 90-105 cm wide and has good performance (visuals, spotting) in IL-2?
- I'm thinking about putting three smaller screens vertically and using them as one big screen (for instance, 3x2560x1140, for single 3420x2560 screen). But they probably need to be angled curved-screen like (surrounding the player). How feasible it that?
- What are your choices for triple screen? Do you have experience with this model?

- Other solutions I didn't think about?

The model you have linked has awfully big bezels to put in such arrangement, especially if you stand them on end.  And those bezels will be close.  Also, do you have the performance to drive 3 monitors?  You could always move your storage rack to accommodate a better setup.

Yes, they are first try.

That's what salespeople said :P . I completly replaced my computer year ago, the card is a 3070 I think (3060 at worst). With these screens, i can probably get graphics card for them if desperate.

I could, but can't move the wall and a 10cm gap between cockpit and the wall... wait, maybe I cab have that and build it over.

I'm actually thinking about having a panoramic screen asymetrically (the extra 20 cm to the left). But with anything not run by TrackIR I'll be looking left all the time.

Edited…was going to recommend 81cm(horizontal), 34” (diagonal) monitor, but re-read your post and you want something bigger than that.

edit2:  moving the monitor up closer to your face will achieve the effect of a bigger monitor to some extent, seriously.

You might consider this.  Although pricey it's  about on par with other 4K units of similar size.  If you're going to put money into gaming remember the thing you look at is what gives you enjoyment.  The main difference between most monitors and this is the screen, OLED is very beautiful.   It is an LG OLED 4K TV with multiple inputs and works as a PC monitor.  The link is to one with a 106.7cm (42 inch) screen diagonally which is a true width of 93.2cm wide (36.7 inches).  It has G-Sync up to 120fps (native) with low latency.    With several picture profiles you can have one set for gaming with built-in HDR with various control settings.  And when not using it as a PC it's a beautiful TV with remote.

I have had the 48 inch version for a several years now.  Run IL-2 on highest settings with a 2080Ti.

Thank you! I've pretty much set on 48" 4K solution as it fills my space perfectly and needs less hassle than triple screen. How do you think would this screen compare? It seems to have most features of your TV, plus g-sync (?)

I have the 48" TV LG OLED version also with G-Sync.  The latency on the TV is <1 whereas the monitor version is .1.  After set up I have never had an issue.  Either will give you a fantastic view.  48" is big, make sure your distance from the screen is appropriate.

You may wish to read a little about burn in and OLED screens.  LG does a good job to prevent it.  I don't have any but I take steps to avoid the possibility.

Yup. I bought a sort of cheap (but totally solid) monitor arm off Amazon for under €40 and mounted my 32'' screen to it. Had to do it since I went with a mounted HOTAS that pushes me quite a bit from my desk.

Super convenient to have the monitor set-up like that since you can position it anywhere within the range of motion of the arm/mount without having to pull a heavy monitor-stand around on your desk. And you can get it into positions where you wouldn't be able to put the screen on a regular mount ... like "hovering" right over your keyboard at the front edge of the desk.

Screen pushed (nearly) all the way back:

Screen pulled all the way to the front - more or less:

Takes about 3 seconds to pull the thing right into my face.

Plus it makes my desk look a little less cluttered since there's no more chunky foot/stand squatting in the middle of it. For an even cleaner look you could also go with a wall-mounted arm if that's an option in your room.

I would seriously consider going with a slightly "smaller" screen and put it on such a mount to be able to pull the screen towards you for gaming. Makes a huge difference for me when flying, and since I can always push it back after I'm done, I can still comfortably work and surf on the monitor. Which I wouldn't be able to when it is in my face like that.. :)

You're welcome. :)

Slight caveat based on amazon reviews I studied before buying:

If you're going for a cheaper solution, make sure to select a mount that's rated to support more weight than what your screen actually weighs. Some of those things had complaints by users that their mounts were struggling to support their screens. And they all had mounts that were rated just high enough for their screens. Like 8kg screen/panel on an arm rated for 8kg.

My screen weighs 7.7kg without its stock stand and I went with an arm rated for 10 or 12kg (can't recall which it was, but it's definitely "over-rated" for my screen).

Also double check that you're getting a mount that can be extended (meaning that allows to pull the screen towards the front of the desk). I think most of them do, but there are some out there that won't let you pull the screen towards you.
