Where are the tactical markings?

Ok, seems like the new tactical markings system only works for QMB & career?

Just trying out a scripted campaign and my AI mates still spawning naked. No numbers,no letters.

Bug or feature?

Campaign designers have to manually add tactical markings to their missions. I've started this work in my Kerch-Eltigen campaign and it's a huge amount of work that requires a lot of research. I doubt I will do this for my other campaigns too, it's just too much work. What might be double is to add markings just for the player's unit.

That would be horrible if game would add randomly markings wherever it wants. -That would stop all the skinning completely except for generics, because all custom skins would look like tur... umm Picasso's paintings.

It is only natural that in scripted campaigns the markings are by mission designer. It a lot of work, yes.

Well..just as I expected ?

Joke aside.  In an ideal world,we would have an ingame option like:

"Turn generic markings on/off"

If set to on: EVERY AI plane spawns with a specific tactical number. If set to off: EVERY Ai plane spawns naked and can be used for custom skins, set by the campaign designer or the player in the mission editor.

As it stands now, the system is more or less half finished and to be honest, I doubt that many mission designer will take the extra amount of work and add those markings in their campaigns.

Which renders the entire system useless for us single players.

Or did I miss something here?

It was in the changelog.

Tactical codes in the QM, AQM and in the career are automatically generated, in the Scripted Campaigns they had to be added manually, so this will take time to update all of the campaigns.

...in the Quick Mission, Advanced Quick Mission, and Pilot's Career modes the AI-controlled aircraft also have correct tactical numbers.

Oh dear. I personally think that is a grave error. It detracts greatly from my enjoyment of the sim and this is the first addition/change to do that.?

And how should the game know, which markings are historically correct in a scripted mission? Just using some auto-generated random numbers would work on Soviet planes, but not for the complex marking system of German aircraft, which can indicate Geschwader, Gruppe, Staffel affiliation of an aircraft and for staff officers also the pilots position in a unit.

It doesn't have to impact custom missions, custom scripted campaigns or custom campaign engines though... so that is an option?

Could you perhaps elaberate on why this detracts from your enjoyment of the sim?

I am yet to have an opportunity to try it yet but am looking forward to perhaps being able to find my flight leader or which plane I am forming up next to without having to turn labels on in generic careers. I can't imagine spending too much time reading the code on enemy planes as I'm ususally dead or busy by the time I am close enough to see that much detail!

What is an option? It's quite straightforward what this new feature affects, and custom missions obviously don't fall under that.

Why do you think that? Most mission makers take a lot of care to ensure that every detail is just right.

Which scripted campaign are you currently playing?

The patch only came out yesterday, and you've already determined it's ruined the game? Really? Randomly generated tactical codes on planes you won't really even look at; that's what did it for you?

C'mon man.

Well, I probably should have used the word choice... but that is exactly was what I was pointing out.

Well considering the huge amount of work and research that just one mission needs, or campaign, tactical markings are more of a minor stuff to click in if your research has revealed active units already and you have the material. And I'd see that those markings are (at least for me when building a mission) a welcome addition. So I would not be that negative and perhaps even disrespectful... Saying that HOWEVER I do understand if campaign creator does not want to go back anymore to revise all of his missions; times and obligations may have changed, coming back to fix that is not broken is always a bit depressing etc...
