This is a huge update and it is a joy to know it is out.

Only one point; download speed seems low (2,4 Mbits/sec) and was questioning if it is limited from server side.

Thanks for the update!  I have 2 questions though.

 

Is the Churchill going to be an AI vehicle object eventually?

Are a lot of the newer objects over the last couple of releases ever going to get static models?

Sorry, maybe false alarm. I restarted my computer and it seems to be ok. Thx in advance. 

 

Thank you guys for the new propeller effect that add next level of immersion as well as new numbers on our planes. But the most great full I am for repairing the nav/formation lights. It brings a lot more of simulation in the MP fights and tactics.

About AI doing a better job attacking ground targets : do they still prioritize AAA or do they attack the intended target now?

Bravo team!!

 

The 5.002 version number doesn't convey what a leap in features this release represents. 

Having no idea about how version numbers are decided, I'd say this is at least 5.101.

 

Now with this update out of the way, let's get straight to the case. What's the next module???? Release the kraken!!

Great update and thanks to the whole team for the effort.
I have just had a quick mission over Dover (one of my standard test points) and also have lost around 20fps. Now running at a max of 70 to 72 fps. Before I was 90fps consistently, unless there was extreme crowded action going on and only then did it drop below 90 momentarily.

Hey, so is the stroboscopic effect of the prop accurate to the human eye or to cameras? I'm curious. I don't spend much time close to propellers.

Now, regarding the new tactical codes: I didn't see any menu option to change them in my quickmission setup, and mine appear like this my default:

Is this just a bug for me? Something reloading would help?

I’m not really sold on the propellers. The external views are decent but apart from WWI crates it does not seem to have changed much from before, when inside the cockpit.

 

Edit: Also, I expected to actually see the blades when slowing down time, like in CloD but it seems to not be the case.

Gotta say, the DVD is a really clever solution to the problem. I got this 190 (note automatic tactical markings!) with a P-38's .50's and 20mm. You can see where the 20's hit.

 

In a prior 4 vs 1 engagement, I let my guard down and a 190 got me.... so before he opened fire, I slowed time all the way down and watched the DVD system work. Never had so much fun getting shot up. Very, very cool!

Another prop effect I just noticed was with a P-47 sitting on the ground with the engine at idle. As I've seen in many films and videos, the prop animation seemed to reverse momentarily. I assume that is due to video or film speed going in and out of sync with the props rotation. I think that's a pretty cool effect I wasn't expecting.

It's hard to believe what you have done with this Sim. You have gone a long way for old guys like myself to enjoy flying these great aircraft. Two thrums up.

I just wanted to say that is a very nice touch with regard to the Collins family.

 

Honestly not sure I could see the photo without getting a bit choked up. Sad for so many who were lost.

It can appear in both situations. More common in video, but also can be witnessed by the human eye. I have personally seen this myself on wheel rims on motor vehicles on motorways numerous times. Was hoping it would be replicated in-game when the prop update was announced, although I didn't expect such a phenomenom to be replicated in sim. I've yet to witness it in IL-2 GB myself, but by all accounts, it sounds like it is present now. Hats of to the devs, once again, if this is the case. This update has not disappointed.

Does anyone have a link to a good website that speaks of Squadron leader Collins? i looked on goggle and there wasn't much, something on Facebook and i don't have Facebook, just wanted to read on his life etc,thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

I haven’t had a chance to download the update yet. Am I reading it right that the new numbering/markings are being placed on/over user made skins that already have them? And if so there is no way to turn it off?

Good question. I haven’t figured that out yet. Something about tactical codes, but I haven’t figured out how to access that.

Thanks for the update!

 

However, having an issue. The update downloaded and then got about 1/4 of the way through install and stopped. Got a message the game could not be updated.  Closed out of the launcher, re-booted the computer - now stuck on "Downloading Game Client (2.17 kB/11.15 GB), 0/s"

 

Hope this fixes itself - haven't the time to babysit it as I have hit the rack since I work in the very early AM (Central DST, USA). I'll leave it up and running while  I catch some zzzz's.

Update: The problem was resolved. The 5002 update was taking place while Windows was downloading an update. Evidently, they did not like each other. Was able to finish the install and am looking forward to some missions tonight after work ?

It doesn't. If you want to use the custom skin with the particular national style of tactical codes, you first have to set the country for the plane in the mission. If it's a generated mission, you have to select one of the official skins for the selected country, and then change it to custom before starting the mission. Regarding the new squadron markings, a great feature to have but still needs some work. On a positive note this is easier to use than MATmanager in the old IL-2. The option to choose the colors is brilliant. My thoughts:

  • It seems there are several aircraft waiting for this feature to become available... Bf 109 F-4 noted
  • Poor implementation of multiple-digit codes for Luftwaffe fighters, say you want "10" well you have to choose "1" in the 2nd slot and "0" in the 3rd slot, both are separated by the Balkenkreuz which is both incorrect and reverses the order of digits on the starboard to read "0+1" ? How to fix? Give them fighters 4 slots to work with like the bombers and allow the 1st slot to have alphanumeric characters.
  • imo, there are 1 too many aircraft setup menus to click through in single player. The wrench icon in the map screen could be done away with and just stick with the hangar setup right before starting the mission. Granted, in multiplayer lobbies the wrench menu has some benefit sure.

I hope the devs continue upgrading this system (maybe kill marks or squadron emblems in future?), it has huge potential for personalization!

For those having issues with custom markings, I suspect there is a bug with the new custom numbers/markings in QMB on some maps.

 

Limited testing so far - have only used two maps. On Stalingrad summer map using the multi-plane QMB (3 v 3 plane icon) there is no option given to select/deselect the custom markings - the option screen for this just does not appear for any nationality I tested. So game seems to default to using them with no option to disable.

 

Using the AQMB feature on Stalingrad summer map, the custom markings option is there and works beautifully. Can select what numbers you wish. Or not use at all.

 

I also tried Veliki Luki Winter map and QMB missions on it had the custom markings selection screen and worked as expected.

 

So it seems that on some maps (Stalingrad summer at least) there is a bug.

 

I'll put in a bug report anyway.

What do you mean by "waiting to become available" for the F-4?

 

Two-digit numbers are not possible on the 109s and 190s, because the codes would be mirrored incorrectly on the opposite side.

And just to add the new DVD damage is fantastic. Looks really great.

I use pwcg with custom skins for my squadron. How do I prevent the new markings from being added to those skins while they are added to all AI planes other than my squadron?

I tried the default skins with the game in the QMB, but I am having the same result. I'm not following exactly what needs to be done to correct this. Thanks.
