Blitzen Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 I'm looking for the best and easiest to install Boeing B-17 G flight sim to take screen shots with it .It would be nice if it came with a downloadable version. I suppose it would have to work with a version on Microsoft flight simulator .I have the disk version of that but also have Steam that I could install the Microsoft sim on. Suggestions?

Blitzen Posted October 11, 2022 Author Posted October 11, 2022 (edited) Do happen to know if these are downloadable or must be shipped to buyer? I assume it needs the Microsoft Flight simulator to "fly?" Edited October 11, 2022 by Blitzen

Any FSX screen shot showing the ground is going to look poor by modern standards.
Guest deleted@83466 Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 It was good. Part of what made it so good, was an immersive AI crew. No bombardier, since it was not a combat sim. This is one reason, when people say “oh please, give us a B-17 in IL-2”, I’m not so enthusiastic. I don’t -want- to be the copilot, bombadier, navigator, engineer all by myself.
Blitzen Posted October 11, 2022 Author Posted October 11, 2022 Working on a large painting of the 100th BG & would like to see if the screenshots would help in showing taxiing aircraft.. www.jamesdietz.com 5 2

Can vouch for that. Too bad it is civilian-only. Imagine having that level of control on a combat flight sim! 15 hours ago, SeaSerpent said: It was good. I would gladly waive all gunners, and the engineer, navigator and radio operator, to fly a heavy - any heavy - in GB on pilot, copilot, bombsight and simple map interface we have now. As much as I like the idea of having such 4 engine bombers in the sim, I do have some reservations about their practical use in games like IL2 (or any current combat sim for that matter). First of all, these are multi crew aircraft that require some automatisms reflecting the required work of the other crew members. A2A has their way of provideing that, PMDG also has that. As only a leading aircraft in a box can use the Sperry, you are condemned to fly hours long missions with hands at the control constantly, unless you have a cockpilot function like "hold this place in formation". Essentially, you need a system that can control the complex aircraft 100% and the player is basically invited to swap between the individual tasks required to his discretion. I just think bomber gameplay and fighter gameplay don't mix that well. But as AI like in DCS, they certainly would add to the game, even when made a bit more simple and less detailed. As for the A2A B-17, she's a beauty even in old FSX: It is fun flying her, especially in foul weather while fighting her systems and using NAV aids.

I’ve seen news about this about a year ago, but nothing since.I haven't checked the Microsoft website in the past couple of months so maybe there is "new" news? I did see that they were doing a new pitch for the now 20+ year old Flying Fortress sim...ironically at least in this B-17 thread ,I did the cover art for that sim back in the day! I can only hope it's going to be available in VR too! ( If this does ever surface I'll be first in line to purchase same- I just hope it's not as complicated as their old B-17 sim was...I might have said overly immersive?) 7 hours ago, ZachariasX said: As much as I like the idea of having such 4 engine bombers in the sim, I do have some reservations about their practical use in games like IL2 (or any current combat sim for that matter). Do you need MS flight simulators to make to make this work? Also do you happen to know if it’s downloadable? Slightly OT…I think 4 engined bombers even inAI would be a good addition to our favorite flight sim as they were/are in the old IL-2 version. Fun to fly in formation (. With VR,) and fun to shoot at…and generally die trying to down. I am hoping that both the B-25 and B-26 are made flyable ,after all the A-20 is a hoot to hot rod around ,isn’t it? Someone has said that the powered turrets are part of what’s holding this up, but may I point out that our brother( sister) sim Clod has a very nice Wellington with operating front and rear turrets .On a lark I flew it last night in VR and may I say it is very nicely done. It is my understanding that much of the work was done as a team of third party models. If so they did a hell of a job and points to the fact that the turrets can be done. The installer will detect any version you have. If not 8or you have other preferences), you can also manually point the installation folder to where you want it.

Steam FX should be somewhere on Steam to buy and install? Too bad they don't have the A2 B-17 as well.It would be nice to get it all in one place.Let me ask once I have both the Steam FX and the A2 B-17 is the install straight forward? ( Grrrr. It makes my angry I gave my old FX to Goodwill last year!)

Money well spent to just get it from Steam for a new install. It takes forever to install from discs... All I have is the normal Steam client and the B-17 I got from A2A's website. Straight forward procedure.
