Youtch Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 (edited) I have recently developped an addiction to Mk108 30mm canon for dogfight. Once you get an hold on the weird ballistic and are able to control your trigger impulse, it becomes very satisfying to wipe a plane out just with one or two shots. I shoot only cannon and do not mix with the MGs as the tracers and difference of trajectory make it difficult to be accurate, and anyway MGs except if shoot in big volume are pretty much useless It requires a lot of patience and self-control but with practice you can easily shoot 5-6 planes with only 65 rounds of Mk108. Then the pleasure of aligning angle and timing properly your half second pressure on the trigger to witness your target desintegrating after just one or two shots has no equivalent. Any suggestion of other weapons that would be as satisfying as Mk108? Edited October 11, 2022 by Youtch Specify that it is for dogfight to bring down fighters and not bombers 1

Irishratticus72 Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 Twin 2 pounders in a Hurricane are awfully satisfying too. 1

Sandmarken Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 The twin 30mm in the me 410 just rips through bombers. ?

Avimimus Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 (edited) Yes. Sniping with the 37mm M4 cannon... similar muzzle velocity (if you can snipe with one you can snipe with the other) but with a lower rate of fire and a bigger 'boom'. If you like using the M-108 that way you'll like the P-39. 5 hours ago, CSW_Tommy544 said: Sniping with a 37mm cannon in an Airacobra I see you got to this point ahead of me 3 hours ago, Irishratticus72 said: Twin 2 pounders in a Hurricane are awfully satisfying too. 3 hours ago, Sandmarken said: The twin 30mm in the me 410 just rips through bombers. ? Yes, but these are high velocity guns... it makes aiming easier, and one doesn't have to lead and correct for gravity as much. Whereas the Mk-108 and M4 require you to be more intuitive in your shooting. They also have a longer flight time so there is more suspense between pulling the trigger and the hit... and that moment of breath-holding before the fireball is what ups the satisfaction levels to unreal highs. That pause moment is the hole flight with a 410. It isnt really up to the task of fighting late war allies ?

Well, also the somewhat 'relaxed static stability' in a design which lacks fly-by-wire Makes it the most satisfying aircraft to do aerobatics in... if one is insane at least. 1

Flatter trajectory for its cannon. Downside is 30 shells carried versus Germans' 65. Example of easier aiming for precise targets: Spoiler
Gambit21 Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 Quote Is there anything more satisfying than sniping with Mk108? Sniping someone who's sniping with the Mk-108. Seriously though...yeah I had a good time with it back in the day.
Guest deleted@83466 Posted October 12, 2022 Posted October 12, 2022 Nowadays, though, a good day is having a bowel movement…. really, it’s all in good fun, you take yourself a little seriously.?
oc2209 Posted October 12, 2022 Posted October 12, 2022 When you play around with the Yak-9T for even a little while (it does take some getting used to), you can get really accurate: Spoiler The MK 108 is better for short range bursts. While it can be made to single-shot snipe, that's not really what it's suited for. Here's another example of a firing angle and distance that would give the MK 108 some difficulty: Spoiler Ultimately they're both effective weapons, so it comes down to preference.
oc2209 Posted October 12, 2022 Posted October 12, 2022 One hit, one kill, hoorah, etc: Spoiler I'm surprised a direct engine hit would cause an explosion; they normally don't. I'm not entirely sure what did the exploding first. I'd almost want to guess ammo rather than fuel.
percydanvers Posted October 13, 2022 Posted October 13, 2022 To paraphrase my favorite Ace Combat villain <<A powerful plane, a powerful gun, powerful ammunitions, add to that lots of targets and a precise aim and the formula is complete!>> 1
