...the bombs are not leaving any craters or other mark...will they damage objects...???...

...I was flying the SE 5a when I noted this...first time I tried bombs...

Set timer longer or drop from higher altitude, otherwise some bombs won't explode.

Have a nice day.

I agree.  I was disappointed on my F2B mission yesterday.  I thought the bombs didn't explode.  I tested today, banking steeply to view the explosion.  They explode but leave no crater.  I was using contact fuses.  Delay fuses are for burrowing your bomb deep to destroy bunkers or ships' innards.

After more testing (F2BIII, 112lb bombs).  Dropped from 500 ft down to 50 ft using contact fuse.  Exploded each time.  No craters though.  On the lower drops I saw fragments coming up but I couldn't find any damage to the plane.  I did bank sharply around to view the explosion so I may have turn out of the fragment spread.

Well, reflew the F2B mission.  My bombs didn't explode.  My wingman's did and left craters.  We both dropped from about 350 ft.

I've never seen a crater that is persitent.  As soon as you pan away from the ground where the bomb hit the crater despawns.  It's the same with destroyed artefacts.  Really breaks the immersion but this is an old game engine we're playing on.

Bomb do work. Are you sure yours are exploding, or just leaving an impact puff? Its sounds like you're using contact fuse and they're just impacting only.

I actually didn't think the bombs exploded at all using contact fuse. Its either a bug or designed that way to protect the planes from fragging themselves.

Usual advice is to use 5s fuse timer. Try it

Yep, in some of the experiments I tried the large white puffs of smoke and fragments flying upward that I thought were explosions were just impact effects.  There was no orange flash and black smoke of an explosion.  A previous post said contact fuses had to be dropped from 650 ft or more.  I agree.  That's what I found in trials.  Also, found a line in the gtp files for a 50kg bomb (which is roughly 112lbs) which said LiveTime=6, which I assumed was a fuse activation time.  But, using a 5 second fuse to get exlosions from a lower altitude drop is b.s.  The fuse detonation time has nothing to do with the fuse activation time.  A long detonation time is to allow the bomb to penetrate deeper to destroy bunkers or interior of buildings, ships, etc.  It is undesireable for destroying troops in the open or vehicles as most of the explosion effect is muted and projected more upward than outward.  Look at Vietnam.  They developed Snakeye bombs to retard the bomb drop so the plane had time to get away, and so the bomb had time to activate during a low altitude drop.  The bombs had the ability for delay fuse detonation but they didn't use that because they wanted a surface explosion.

Craters are hit or miss.  Even when I got an orange explosion I might get a visual crater or not.

Whether historically accurate or not, or even logical/reasonable or not, contact fuses for Entente bombs do not work. For best results, I set my fuses to 5sec. I am able to dive-bomb, glide-bomb, and altitude-bomb without problems. Not just in quick-mission tests, either. I usually fly multiplayer, and I've blown up a LOT of things with that 5sec delay. Why would you have a bunch of fuse options if only setting works? It doesn't make any sense to me, but I do what I gotta do.

Fun fact, if you drop a bomb on a balloon or other aircraft, it will detonate on impact regardless of fuse setting. I've killed a number of balloons that way, but always got damaged by the blast effects. It even works against Gothas :)
