JU88C6 Gondola Removal Option

Recommended Posts

Posted

Since I've had so much fun flying the c6 lately I pulled out the ol' Squadron/signal publications boom to look at the perdy pictures and noticed they note that the gondola could be removed.

It looks pretty sleek without the gondola, any chance that could be a modification? Still wont escape fighters, but at least I could get in to battle to die a bit faster!

Such a beautiful look without the gondola! That would be my main motivation ?

Also, every modification that was historically available and can be done in game... should be done.

Sweet Ju88S - a high-speed 400+ mph Ju88 with BMW 801 radials.

In fact, the picture shows a Ju 88C5.

Indeed that would make a good collector's aircraft: BMW 801A, and instead of a gondola, there is a small weapon's pod further back with two MG17.

The lack of a gondola and the 801s made this aircraft a lot faster than the C6, between 40 kph and 44 mph (depending on the source, though I think the latter might be a bit too optimistic).

Anyway, I would love it.

Moar pics from the book, so much versatility, much handsomeness, gib variants!

A jumo 213A powered G6, production started in summer 44, but the bmw 801A or D engined G1 began in fall of 43. The G frame had improvements from the earlier frames, shared with the 188. Note that as the above picture shows, the 801 was previously used on the C5.

Something for which our 110s and 88s have long awaited, if/when big bois and night fighting are added, these will be welcome.

Look at that smooth bottomed G1, almost looks like it could catch something! Notice the gunpod like posted earlier.

Would love to have BMW 801 or Jumo 213 powered Ju-88 in the sim.

Ju88R-2 which used BMW 801 engines were used during the Normandy campaign and since they were very similar to the Ju88C6 there is an chance we might see it in the future as collector plane.

Sure...

Though, unfortunately, this still has the rather ungainly gondola. (and missing the spinners in the second pic)

I would buy it anyway. ?

Quite a lot of possible Ju 88 Zerstörer options for a Collector's aircraft. Despite the small numbers I would prefer the C5 for its looks alone, although the R2 is clearly the more important variant historically.

A look at the Zerstörer-prototype without the gondola. Very nice...

How about taking some of those rockets we have for the arado and throwing them on the 88? :)

Ha! I didn't realize they used RATO packs on the '88...that's pretty cool.

Makes sense though, given the improvised airfields they often took off on.

Used for heavy bomb loads, so probably not an option for the C6. Still cool.

Let's get back to the gondola-less Ju 88 Zerstörer:

It's...beautiful.

Wonder how fast she is?

This C-5? Some 580 kph (360 mph), iirc.

It is a clean Ju 88 with BMW 801s... so, yeah, it is fast.

Our C-6 would benefit from the clean lines as well, but the increase in speed would not be huge. I want it purely for aesthetic reasons, and I have to admit it seems very unlikely such a mod will be added after the release of the plane (and the BoN module as a whole).

Also, let us be honest, removing the gondola was not common practice for a reason. From the historical point of view, this is not a terribly sensible mod.

It might be better to ask for another fast Ju 88 fighter, commonly used: the R-2. Yeah, it has a gondola, but it also has BMWs. Should be almost as fast. I think I'll prepare a thread for this. (Even if I am the only one who wants it ?)
