453=SGII_Wotan Posted October 7, 2022 Posted October 7, 2022 Hi I currently run a 27.5inch msi curved screen and a rtx 2070 gfx card. Game runs really well, however I have issues spotting planes online I am going to by a new monitor looking at 31.5 or a 34 inch screen. What should I be looking for or at to omprove my on line experience (all comments welcome)
Guest deleted@83466 Posted October 7, 2022 Posted October 7, 2022 Alienware is good. I’d make sure you get G-Sync.
kendo Posted October 8, 2022 Posted October 8, 2022 (edited) I recommend reading these posts and the thread - gives a perspective on this that is important. Edited October 8, 2022 by kendo 1 1
453=SGII_Wotan Posted October 8, 2022 Author Posted October 8, 2022 thanks Kendo, I sim with Kinninmont, I have been checking the spotting threads to see what gives best performance I am going to get an MSI 31.5-inch curved screen as my rtx 2070 is made by MSI and I am happy with the 27 inch MSI monitor apart from the spotting issues I have with it 1
1Sascha Posted October 12, 2022 Posted October 12, 2022 I've played this game and other flight sims on 1080p, 24'' Samsung monitor (ca. 2010 vintage) 1080p, 27'' Asus IPS-monitor (bought in 2013 or 14) and now on a 1440p, 32'' Iiyama G83271QSU monitor (bought this year). All of their resolution/size-ratios are listed as "recommened" or "OPed for spotting" in that table but I was never able to reliably spot planes on any of them. Not even on the Iiyama which is gigantic in comparison to my first ever flat-screen (that 24'' Samsung) and which I have mounted on an extendable arm to be able draw it closer to my face than any other monitor I've used previously. Granted: I never really stuck with icon-less, since I found it stressful and not very enjoyable having to keep my nose glued to my monitor's screen to spot enemy planes. All of which is to say that I wouldn't expect too much of a change from increasing the size of your monitor by a few inches. I know I expected a lot when I switched from 24 to 27 and then from 27 to 32'' and both times I ended up a bit disappointed. S.
453=SGII_Wotan Posted October 13, 2022 Author Posted October 13, 2022 I am really happy with the MSI screen I bought and it has made a big difference, I run balanced settings @ 1080p and things for me have improved out of site staying at 1080p makes the dots stand out better than going to native screen resolution
kestrel79 Posted October 17, 2022 Posted October 17, 2022 How are the big 32"+ screens for IL2? I had a 3 x 27" @ 1080p setup for 10 years that I used for simracing. One blew out, so I'd like to just upgrade to one big monitor since I mainly sim in VR these days. Triple screens aren't needed really.

Happy with mine.. 32'' is almost too big for a regular sized desk IMO. Not because of the monitor's bulk, but because if you have a screen this large too close to your face, it's not really enjoyable. Especially when you're writing/working on it. When I still had it on its stock stand and not on the extendable monitor arm I now use, I had it sitting right at the rear edge of my slightly oversized desk (80 cm deep, regular size is 60 to 70cm AFAIK) and that sort of distance was fine. Of course, that didn't really work once I went and bought mounts for my HOTAS, so I put it on the monitor arm. S. Edited October 18, 2022 by 1Sascha
