Youtch Posted October 6, 2022 Posted October 6, 2022 I was mesmerized by the similarity with dogfight tactics. It does not end up well for the white shark who is out numbered and fall victim to a boom n zoom from below by another whale in the squadron. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/oct/05/drone-footage-orcas-killing-white-shark-south-africa
343KKT_Kintaro Posted October 6, 2022 Posted October 6, 2022 For decades now we know orcas do kill white sharks... I was a scuba diver years ago. I saw so many times fish "dogfighting" fish that I can tell you there's no need to refer to bigger aquatic fauna to see the equivalent of dogfighting in these animals. It happens all the time, every minute a "dogfight" happens underwater. Cheerio! PS: have you ever witnessed a dragonfly chasing a butterfly? THIS is a real dogfiht in the air! and it does happen every day on earth, every year from March to October! 1
Youtch Posted October 6, 2022 Author Posted October 6, 2022 Dragonfly has a level of maneouvrability that has no equivalent in our flying world, hence somehow the fish analogy seemed to fit better.

A few years ago, in a forest here in France, in the very middle of a chase, I saw once one butterfly almost being caught by the dragonfly. The butterfly turned on itself in a desperate roll and keppt flying at its fastest speed. I saw them get lost in the woods without ever knowing if the dragonfly had caught the butterfly. Believe me, that match was very very very even.
9./JG27golani79 Posted October 7, 2022 Posted October 7, 2022 I once saw a crow boom and zooming a buzzard - it was amazing to watch. A lot of cool stuff going on in our wildlife. 1
Mtnbiker1998 Posted October 8, 2022 Posted October 8, 2022 I've seen a few birds try and get close to an RC plane I was flying. No dogfights personally but I have seen a few youtube videos of hawks attacking RC's!
