343KKT_Kintaro Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 Hey fortysixers, I have one question for you. I do possess the classic DVD from 2006, "IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946". Now I encounter some trouble to make this DVD is readable by modern computers... while my "DCS", my "Rise of Flight", my "Cliffs of Dover" or my "Great Battles" are all of them "DLC", this is, downloadable contents which are accessible by means of a password (obviously with the need of an operational internet connection). So my question is: if I do purchase an online version of '46 (for example, the "IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946" which is on sale in gog.com) will I also have a password-accessible digital version ? I have to admit that if I go back to '46, it would make my life a bit easier to have sims that are 100% recognizable by password... and '46 only costs 10 or 11 dollars. If I don't purchase the game again... how can I make my game works fine out of the original DVD from 2006?
Boomerang Posted October 3, 2022 Posted October 3, 2022 Hi Kintaro, Do you have a steam account? If so, you should be able to activate the game using your product key code, (from the DVD case, or the DVD). Within your Steam account, under the "Games" section, (top left within your steam account), you should see "Activate a Product on Steam". Follow the steps needed to add your game to your steam library. This is probably the easiest way of playing older CD or DVD game versions that you already own. I just installed 46, for the Pacific Theater fix, I really miss. The mods can be rather large in size, but I think it's still cool using them. My favorite mod is YPack 1.2.3. mainly because it does not bother about the prototype aircraft. Regarding your password, the only one I can think of you will need is the one you setup for your Steam Account. Hope this helps you in some way. S!

Thank you for your kind response Boomerang, but I don't like Steam (sorry fella). I have a Steam account since March 2011, I'll let you guess why, and it's the only reason I have it. Other than that, do you know if the digital copies that are sold on line at present do work with a password? It's not I absolutely want they do work by means of a password you know, I'd be happy even if they work as a simple downloadable and executable software (please compatible and immediately recognizsable by both W10 and W11). For example, what would be the procedure if I purchased '46 in gog.com? DO you know, Boomerang? Does anybody know?
Boomerang Posted October 3, 2022 Posted October 3, 2022 "Steam" is still the easiest way, it's a choice, game folders can be backed up and run again with no issues, even without using steam again, you own the product. There are other ways of achieving what you are requesting via creating an iso from a games disk you own. Then use the product key from the related game to activate or run it using a virtual drive, (you will need to own a usb DVD drive, or similar to achieve this in order to create your iso image from the disk you own). This method is old school and best investigated via tutorials, if choosing this option. Regarding purchasing from another chosen website, your probably better having your questions answered from those whom provide the product. (answers from the horses mouth regarding this option). 1

Neither Steam nor anybody else. At any rate, I don't like Steam, I always thought, and still think, that Steam is nothing but extra unnecessary software. The less extra software you run while running a flight sim... the better the flight sim will be managed by your computer, this is what I think. I spent 20 years playing flight sims without Steam before I was forced to install it for "Cliffs" in 2011... 15 minutes ago, Boomerang said: There are other ways of achieving what you are requesting via creating an iso from a games disk you own. I'll try that! 15 minutes ago, Boomerang said: Regarding purchasing from another chosen website, your probably better having your questions answered from those whom provide the product. A catch tho, Some games, it's hard because in order to update them, steam seems to be the only option, which I personally would not prefer, if given another choice. 46 runs in linux and on an old laptop I use. Vanilla with updates is okay to version 4.13. In order to update to 4.15 I needed to update using a Windows OS first. version 4.12 or 4.13 runs best on my old laptop using a Linux OS, which I was happy about. If your more into the official releases I've found them here: http://forum.fulqrumpublishing.com/showthread.php?t=230741 1
