Career: More Variation in Altitude please!

Career missions are around 90% of the time set to 2000m. That’s neither fun nor historical accurate.

The baseline attack altitude for German Kampfgeschwader and Sturzkampfgeschwader on the eastern front was around 4000m to evade light AAA and have the ability to aim properly. Of course this would vary depending on weather mission and overall situation. Escorts and interceptors would thus engage at  that altitude as well.

Going through German kill claims on the Eastern Front the vast majority seem to be made between 3000m and 5000m.

Especially free hunts in Fw 190 at 2000m make no sense at all as this is in the lower power area between the two super Charger stages. No mission planner with rudimentary knowledge of the aircraft would order cruises below 3000m unless weather dictates it.

I read mostly about the Luftwaffe so those with more knowledge about other services might provide:

- at what altitude did the allies usually deploy medium or fighter bombers?

- at what altitude did the soviets usually deploy medium bombers or attack aircraft?

Especially western allied fighter careers would benefit greatly from higher altitudes but in general it would be more fun and lead to more realistic results including better opportunities for ai and player alike to disengage.

And compared to many other wishes for career gameplay this seems comparably easy to implement.

The one thing limiting higher altitudes for dive bombing is that the AI cannot dive-bomb above 1500 meters right now - if it's above that altitude, then it'll glide down before beginning its proper dive.

As for Western Front altitudes: typically it was 12-15,000 feet for medium bombers and about 7-8000 feet for fighter-bombers, depending on weather, expected AA defenses, etc.

Yep. That is in need to be changed to be somewhere near historical situations. Below 4000m makes zero sense for flightpaths. Hope they change the templates.
