AKA_SilverDevil1964a Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 hello. been on and off playing IL2. all of a sudden, no matter what mission, campaign, career, etc, i always start off in a cockpit of a plane that is being controlled by AI. none of keypresses will allow me to control the plane. its probably something easy but i cant get the right search terms to find a fix. any ideas?
kendo Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 (edited) May be this (?) - you need to be in cockpit view [F1] when pressing 'A' to turn off autopilot. It has no effect if you are in external view [F2] etc. Or....initially, level flight mode is usually on - to break out of it you need to move the joystick significantly and then the plane will be under your control. Skycat1969 Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 You shouldn't be starting out in autopilot. The air starts are auto-level, which is disengaged by moving your controller.
AKA_SilverDevil1964a Posted October 2, 2022 Author Posted October 2, 2022 thanks for replies. i figured out my issue. i started IL2 without my powered USB hub on so none of the controllers were connected. it seems that all my controller bindings reset to default. i had to redo all the bindings after i restarted IL2 with them connected. unfortunately i have to use autopilot to get my plane airborne because i am terrible. i usually spend 20 minutes spinning around on the runway before i get frustrated and quit.
Mollotin Posted October 5, 2022 Posted October 5, 2022 Using autopilot is okay but learning to take off is not that difficult. Maybe check out some YouTube tutorials. Basic tips for take off: Be gentle with throttle and rpms, use rudder and wheel brakes to immediately counter any direction changes. use brakes only in slow speed when rudder is not effective. at approx 200kph gently pull up. make sure to have ur tail wheel locked in planes that have such function. good luck.
