I going to be hopeful.  Jason is in Japan, studying under a sensei on a journey that may take many years.  Ultimately, he will be able to fluently read the manuals and docs that are in the "lost technical language" and relate them to the team, giving us the Japanese aircraft and vehicles we so hunger for!  Be patient!

Also Hatori Hanzo is making a new joystick for him

I just don't subscribe to the notion that an executive producer not posting for a couple of weeks means the company is crumbling.

Of course the discussion here is not so much about the company crumbling, but about Jason being out. If one and a half months of radio silence (except for one farewell-sounding message to a trailer maker) during a period, when a major DLC is released, with all the previous releases being announced by Jason himself, seems normal to someone, then that sounds like someone is in deep denial. What makes it extra awkward is the fact that there is no communication about the matter.

There is absolutely nothing 'farewell sounding' about Jason saying 'was a pleasure working with you.'

Regardless of any other causes for alarm, that particular statement means nothing. There is nothing to infer from it. Any speculation regarding it is entirely unrelated to any kind of logical deduction. Pure blind guesswork instead.

Well, the next installment hasn't been announced yet, has it? When it is, and Jason still doesn't say a word, then we can all say something is 100% confirmed to be weird.

Until then, there's zero evidence of anything.

If we really want to analyze the timeline, he was talking frequently and normally up to September 8th. Then the long gap until the 'farewell' message of the 30th. Now it's been almost 3 weeks since then.

Basically there was also a 3 week gap between his last two messages. Unusual? Yeah, I guess, though I haven't really studied his posting habits until now.

***

Edit: Looking through his posting history, there was another big gap from August 18 to September 2 (which was a very brief message, just saying there was no DD planned), then the activity surrounding the Sept. 8 release of Normandy.

I went back further than that, and the longest gaps he had were generally 5-7 days, nothing longer.

Infer from that what you will.

Was is past tense if he had said IS then no one would be saying it was a farewell.

When you are so involved in a project and for so many years.

That you are, in a way, the "creator" of the project, it seems me that the least of courtesies towards all those who have followed you for these years, would be to come and say 'goodbye, I'm leaving this project for certain reasons and I wish you good flights for the future'.

On that way, I am extremely disapointed by Jason's attitude.

End of my comments

Haha, okay. Well, I have seen farewells with pretty much these exact words.

I have been assured that an answer to the ‘Where’s Jason’ question is forthcoming.

Thanks Wardog... good to know something has been acknowledged and we will get an answer... That's the reason I started this thread.

And yes, many of us have been 'with' (so to speak) Jason for years, through RoF and BoS and as it's known now, the GB series.

For me, I've always thought he was a good communicator, and for him to seemingly drop off the scene without a word certainly appeared odd.

If he has moved on, or even if he hasn't, I hope he 'is' on that motorbike riding across America, and I hope it's a Harley!  :yahoo:

Maybe you are not a native English speaker, but I assure that there is something "farewell sounding" in that statement.

Further, it is clearly incorrect that there is "zero evidence".

You all are trying to see something that isn't there, at least with this. It was a one-off project to make a trailer to advertise the release of BoN. Maybe in a few years when the next module releases they'll work together again, or not. Who knows, but when you work with someone on a project and it ends you tend to say it was great working with them.

Perhaps IL-2 GB's knight in shining armor?

As an alternate explanation, what if we remember the creative ways IL2 has divulged new tech in the recent past, and consider what a 'splash' it would make if the J Man were to disappear for a prolonged, some might say exorbitant, period of time to build up tension, anxiety and frustration, only to reveal the new and improved Jason v2.0 with the New Expansion.

This is exactly what I mean.

It's 100% the same thing as saying "was nice chatting with you" to a casual acquaintance. It's a superficial pleasantry, nothing more, nothing less.

The 'was' is referring to the specific and brief period in time in which they worked together. There isn't an ongoing process, thus the past tense usage.

Like I said, if we want to speculate in other areas, fine; but this particular bit of 'evidence' is a non-starter.

Sure, and since that was clearly the single biggest and most important comment for the man to make post release of a several year long project and nothing else warranted another past tense comment in any manner it is clearly nothing more than a passive "thank you."

I think the harder case to make is "Jason is hard at work and simply lost his desire to communicate for the first time in a decade."

English is my first and only language. I also scored 800/800 on my SAT verbal, so I have some grasp of nuance in the English language. This is not an issue of syntax, but of speculation.

As for the evidence, would you (or anyone else reading this) mind reiterating it for me?

Obviously the long gaps in communication are an aberration. The lack of an announcement for the next project is also uncustomary. But none of this is concrete evidence pertaining to Jason's future with the company. That is still an unknown.

13 minutes ago, WIS-Redcoat said:

This is true.

I would guess that he might be supremely irritable about something. Maybe some financial news, maybe some restructuring of the company he has little control over, maybe the fact that he can't travel to Moscow now or anytime in the near future (I'm assuming he can't--it strikes me as inadvisable for any American to set foot on Russian soil right now)... I mean, take your pick. The upheavals going on right now make the Covid lockdown era look like a cakewalk in comparison.

Point is, he probably has a lot going on, not much of it good, and he just might not feel like responding to our often insipid, nagging questions and commentary.

That is a possibility.

If/when the next module is announced, and he still doesn't say much/anything, then we can start weeping and gnashing our teeth in earnest. Until then... whatever.

Han would have to fill you in on the details, but years ago he talked about how he also does medieval reenactments. ⚔️ So, it's probably related to that.

You're doing this wrong.

While he has toyed with us in the past, and as comforting an explanation as this'd be... I kind of doubt it this time around.

Well, given the 'situation' in the world right now, any generic 'the sky is falling' predictions are more likely to be true.

But I still think it's silly to jump the gun. We can always get depressed/disappointed/scared for the future of the franchise, later.

Guys, I'm sorry to be the one to inform you, but...

Normandy is cancelled. It's not going to happen. Going through Jason's posts, I found this from June 8th of this year:

Quote

Things are looking pretty good in most areas. We always have unwanted slowdowns, but Normandy was our most ambitious project to date. Jason

Notice the wording. He clearly should've said 'Normandy is our most ambitious project [...],' but instead said, 'Normandy was our most ambitious project.'

Saying was before it's complete and released can only mean they stopped working on it months ago.

Normandy is dead in the water.
