Where is Jason?

Yes, I would expect a community manager to be tamping out fires in this thread.

This just keeps getting weirder the longer it goes without something official being said/done.

I think this thread has gone beyond any reasonable fire watching  now tbh. It’s a vent and it appears 1CGS (Cant Give Status) are happy for it to be so.

I hope it’s just a bad coms strategy and that health or personal matters are not behind this.

All weird comments and jokes aside, something is definitely afoot that's for sure... anyone who still thinks Jason is just having a little time off needs their heads examined.

If that were the case it would not harm the company or the business model, just to let people know that he's having a time out for a bit and that he's fine.

We are being kept in the dark for a reason...

Maybe he started his own project that will, hopefully, be mergeable with the BoX series?

"Jason's Bombers" or something like that?

Have a nice day.

Either that or they've consulted the credits in the current release of the game, which still lists Jason Williams as the Executive Producer, President - 777 Studios.  I think that should be pretty conclusive; let's face it, Russians are not known for false denials, are they?

There are many reasons he would be taking time off that would be none of our business (grievance, illness, etc)

“Our Exec. Producer has taken a temporary leave of absence for personal reasons,” or would that require Jedi-level PR?

No, but if it were a "sensitive" subject then I'm sure he's within his rights not to share that info. Obviously, I hope I'm way off and all is fine.

I just don't subscribe to the notion that an executive producer not posting for a couple of weeks means the company is crumbling.

Yes, but if you are going to “invest” in a company, in the form of Early Access, it would be nice to know it isn’t about to go tits up, wouldn’t it?  Seriously.

Yes that's true, but the only thing suggesting it's about to fold is speculation from the community.

It would be nice to hear what's happening, but I'm not going to assume it's all over just because the executive producer takes a break from the forums.

They did say several weeks ago that they have already decided on the next module and are very excited about it.

But I'm sure that won't be enough to persuade the conspiracy theorists

Whether or not someone official decides to say something in this thread, it’s really none of our business where Jason is. If he has left, we shouldn’t expect any more official word about it than maybe a simple “he’s left”. That’s the same standard any company follows (or should) when an employee leaves.

This sim has vastly improved over the time that Jason has been in charge. The last year or year and half have shown many major improvements. Too many to mention. Maybe too many to even remember the major improvements. I’ll buy the next installment as a pre-order again even if it doesn’t match up with my wants and needs. I can’t promise I’ll continue to do that but the path the team is on right now deserves my support. For what that’s worth.

As I said in past posts of mine (in other threads though) I started playing PC flight sims back in 1992. At the time there was no internet mania at all. We were isolated gamers, eager to play cool flight sims, that's all. Jason Williams did a lot for this gaming discipline when he launched Stalingrad back in 2012, but if he has applied such an extensive communication policy it is because he knows that we live in the age of the internet and that consumers exert far too much pressure through forums and social networks. I'm very happy with the 1CGS communication policy (very nutritious indeed) same as I'm very happy with the TFS communication policy (less nutritious... and so?). We have games to play and there's no need to harrass the devs when they do not show themselves.

I certainly agree with the statement that nothing more than "Jason left" is required or even appropriate.  However, if Jason did leave, it would IMHO be useful for the company to say so.  Jason has been the English speaking face of the company for over a decade now, so his absence is obviously noticed (8 pages into where's Jason later).

I may be wrong but I think he's much more than that. In the first place, what company do you talk about?

If we had a Stalingrad game back in 2013-2014, and if we have a still continuing Great Battles series of games, this is because of the partnership between Jason Williams (777 Studios) and 1C Company. Jason brings the code (he owns "Rise of Flight") and 1C brings the prestige of the "IL-2 Sturmovik" brand. Nevertheless I do admit don't know the proportion of Russian developers (in Russia I'd say) that is brought by 1C for the development team being efficient enough. From that latter point of view, Jason could have, indeed, a status of English-speaking spokesperson only. I don't know such things, sincerely.

Yeah that is for sure - IL-2 Great Battle's awesome single player experience we have now is due to Jason when he took over the reigns and steered the boat into another direction regarding single player. That is what got me back into the IL-2 series.

From what I understand 777 and the actual staff for R.O.F were Jason's team, his company, he bought the rights to the original software I believe although I might be wrong.  This same group next bought/were invited to take on an original 1C project that they developed into the current GB series using the 777-game engine, so to my understanding Jason to all intents and purposes is the boss of his group and company, admittedly, by taking over two developing projects from two different Russian software houses he would have been under certain contractual obligations but even so it is Jason and his existing team who have brought us to where we are now.

That said we do not know the actual legalise of all this but him getting the push seems highly unlikely, he has been quiet for a very long period though and it would be nice one way or another to know if he has taken his leave for pastures new, we have all been toghether for a long time now and it feels kinda spooky not having some word from him.

Take care and be safe.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete.

Don't know for sure but I don't think Jason  owned 777 and the Rise of Flight code.  If he did then that would go away with the integration into 1C.

As you stated, the software core of Great Battles is Rise of Flight and not IL2 1946.

From Rise of Flight on, the development team has always been mostly Russian based in Moscow.  Like you, I have no idea who came over from 1C and who was an original software developer on RoF and who came in after the integration of 777 and 1C.   I don't even know if 1C acquired 777 or if it was a more equal merger or anything else about the corporate structure.

Jason Williams founded 777 Studios in 2007.

In 2008, he Jason Williams signs agreements with Russian company Neoqb so that their upcoming game "Knights of the Sky" is distributed by 777 Studios, at least in the United States (and maybe a few other countries as well).

In 2009, the game is released under the title of "Rise of Flight"... and doesn't reach the expected success.

In 2010, 777 Studios (Jason Williams) purchases "Rise of Flight", both the source code... AND the brand.

In 2011, and 2012 "Cliffs of Dover" doesn't reach the expected success neither.

In December 2012, 777 Studios (Jason Williams) signs an agreement with 1C Company: the source code of "Rise of Flight", considered stable enough, will be used to convert it into a World War II combat flight simulator under the still then successful brand "IL-2 Sturmovik". New companies are created, companies like "1C Game Studios" and "1C-777 Limited". That latter is responsible of ensuring the creation and management of the present forums.

In late 2013, the early access of "IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad" is released. Its core engine still is named after "Rise of Flight"s engine: "Digital Nature Engine".

In late 2014, the full access of "IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad" is released.

In 2017, the whole series is renamed as "Great Battles", the core engine is renamed as "Digital Warfare Engine".

In 2022... Jason Williams is away for two weeks... and his forum becomes a complete mess.

In 2023... comes the end of the world...

You absolutely omitted any Russian involvement after NEOQB.

Start by looking up 1C and then the real world.

Guys, If I had an answer for you, I would gladly share it just to be able to lock this thread and move on. But I’ve been letting this thread run rather than shutting it down for a several reasons.
1) You guys obviously care a great deal about Jason. I appreciate that. I don’t know the man personally, but he casts a very large shadow. And I am just as curious about his future plans as you are.
2) Without a clear resolution (good, bad or otherwise) locking it would do far more harm than good. And another would just pop up in its place. Wash, rinse and repeat. No thank you!!
3) It was taking a humorous turn, and that is always preferable to doom and gloom.

All that having been said, I am just one of several new employees that have joined 1CGS in the last few weeks. From what I can tell, all of the others are programmers, animators and illustrators etc. People that make things work. But I have no idea what project they are going to be working on because it doesn’t involve me at this time. Maybe it will in the future, maybe it won’t. But obviously somebody has a plan. And I learned long ago that the big picture is only visible to folks well above my paygrade. I’m choosing to be optimistic and assume that signs of growth in a company is a good thing.
So, I would ask you to be patient just a little longer. I have been assured that an answer to the ‘Where’s Jason’ question is forthcoming.

I going to be hopeful.  Jason is in Japan, studying under a sensei on a journey that may take many years.  Ultimately, he will be able to fluently read the manuals and docs that are in the "lost technical language" and relate them to the team, giving us the Japanese aircraft and vehicles we so hunger for!  Be patient!

Not only does he need to learn the specific linguistic flavors of 1940s Japanese technical writings, but he also needs to learn sesshin meditation techniques to properly bring the Zero and other Japanese planes to (simulated) life.
