percydanvers Posted September 25, 2022 Posted September 25, 2022 Hi all, Hope this hasn’t been asked. I searched but couldn’t turn up anything. I downloaded this on steam deck and the good news is that it works very nicely. Does anyone have any advice as to a good control setup for this device? 1
Avimimus Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 I have a feeling that it might not be possible. The game was designed around a keyboard and joystick... so one would probably need those devices. I suppose that, if one turned off most of the features, one could still get some use out of it? I'm not familiar with the steam deck though.

I'm not familiar with the steam deck though. I spent about two weeks trying to figure it out, and I'm inclined to agree. It runs fine from a performance point of view and I even got the joysticks to work after a fashion, but there are just too many controls to bind.
Avimimus Posted October 16, 2022 Posted October 16, 2022 Ah - well, I'm sorry to hear that. Honestly, it helps to have a longer stick in order to fly precisely... so I think a proper (full hand) joystick is advisable anyway. At least it is possible to run the game on almost any computer these days - it even runs pretty well on Linux using WINE! So if you have almost any computer on hand, that should be an option. 1

Oh yeah performance-wise the steam deck ran it beautifully! I want to run 1946 on my normal computer but I can't ever seem to exit the intro cinematic for whatever reason.

Sometimes it has a bug which requires one to alt-tab away from the game and alt-tab back before the keyboard/mouse will respond - so try that. Also, there is a setting in conf.ini that can remove the cinematic intros (I think the Il-2setup.exe actually has a check box where you can uncheck the cinematic intros. It can be found in the Il-2 folder). 1
