taffy2jeffmorgan Posted September 24, 2022 Posted September 24, 2022 Hi all, now we have two European maps to hunt over I was wondering if the trains in BoS could be upgraded/changed, they all look the same no matter where you fly, could we look forward to much longer trains and marshaling yards full of them? and a surprise when you get lucky and hit an ammunition wagon or two. The trains at the moment look as if red Indians should be chasing them not Typhoons. Cheers 3 4

What comes as a standard mission with the game is probably designed to keep a minimum system load so that it will work well with a decent fps and fluidity on smaller less powerful systems with low end graphic cards, in short with any system out in the field, even laptops and have everybody happy. Btw some laptops nowadays can be very powerful and expensive too. Somebody complained in a post that when he flew on the map outside the mission area, he found that the cities and villages had no buildings at all, and all the ground infrastructure was missing. By setting the objects only on the mission area of the map and not anywhere else, is a way to keep the system load to a minimum. This can be frustrating for those investing in a powerful rig that could handle much more loaded and complex scenarios. The only way is to custom build missions with the fantastic editor that comes for free with the game, where you can create basically anything you would dream of, long trains, marshalling yards full of trains locomotives, or major landing operations with tens of ships, landing barges infantry etc. But you have to do it which can be a long learning curve process, that you will do only once, or wait until somebody builds those missions or even full scripted campaigns that tackle the kind of mission you would like to have, say attacking trains and marshalling yards. (You need a good machine to handle it ? ) Edited September 24, 2022 by IckyATLAS 1
taffy2jeffmorgan Posted September 24, 2022 Author Posted September 24, 2022 Thanks ATLAS, that's excellent information Cheers

jollyjack Posted September 24, 2022 Posted September 24, 2022 completely true, the flying a mission business sometimes even gets boring ... but the ME can drive one nuts too.
343KKT_Kintaro Posted September 24, 2022 Posted September 24, 2022 Hey Jeff Morgan, I found what you really need in the game (simply multiply it by 500) : 1
taffy2jeffmorgan Posted September 25, 2022 Author Posted September 25, 2022 I could watch that all day !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

FeuerFliegen Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 I remember a couple years ago or so, I think around the time the P-47 D-22 came out, they released an armored train, which basically looked like a a tank version of a train. Unfortunately it was just a static object, and I haven't seen anyone utilize it (can anyone point me to any missions, campaigns, servers that have it?), and was hoping that they would eventually turn it into a movable train.
BornToBattle Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 Yeah it would be nice if once in a while a freight car was coded that if hit it would explode as it was hauling ammo or explosive materials/shells, etc. You know, a great fireball like we see from the gunsight videos when someone would “hit the jackpot” every now and then.

I have not checked with BON editor, but previously you did not have direct access to the railcars. Only the Locomotive. You can build the train using a selection of railcars that you add in the Locomotive configuration. So, a train is a locomotive object, and what happens to the cars like exploding or being damaged burning or being severed from the locomotive, you cannot access them. If the train is separated in two you have access to the locomotive still, but you cannot do anything with the remaining railcars that if undamaged will then just stay on the railway until another train does collide into them. If we could access each railcar, then we could code their deletion, as an example if there is a proximity with an arriving locomotive, and many other things like having damaged events on railcars etc. etc. 1

A train car like that would be cool, but that functionality exists as fuel cars for now. I was surprised the other day on Combat Box, strafed long ways down a train and was greeted with some pretty sizable explosions. Some excited expletives later, I quickly scurried away in case any Allied pilots saw the giant fireball I made. 1
