The premise would seem to be that latching oneself onto a developer and flailing about against a comers somehow benefits the developer.

(bold type is mine)

With respect, Dagwoodyt, I really didn't get that one: did you mean "against a comers" or "against comers" (honest question, I promise).

EDIT: good, you corrected yourself up to "all comers". I leave it to others to answer...

Don't feed the trolls.
They just try to keep this forum alive.

Please leave them Eazy (and please do let me), they are ripe to fall from the tree...

Other than that... I have one question for the moderators: I'm receiving new insults in my private messages, this time from a different person. What should I do? I already produced at least one screenshot, should I share it with you by going to the appropriate place for that?

Click the three dots on the message to report it directly. No need for screen shots and  no need to keep referencing such messages here.

Thank you, BOO, this is the very first time I'm about to do this, believe me.

Any PM you send can potentially be used to your disadvantage. That is why you don't accept solicitations to a PM duel. The more insistent the entreaties the more reason to stay far, far away.

And there was me thinking you were a moderator with all your forum policing...silly me.

New player here! So here's the thing for me: I don't mind the look of the menus, I actually really like it, It's oldschool. I've had no trouble setting up the controls on my t16000m hotas after a bit of fiddling. I got into the game just fine. However there are some things I noticed right off the bat.

The first thing I expected was to be able to set up a basic game. In the game itself. Choose a map, choose game type, choose amount of birds, choose which birds. What kind of start. Done. It surprises me that this does not seem an option as it's gaming 101. The standard quick missions as an alternative leave a lot to be desired, unless i'm missing something. But if i'm missing something after 60 hours, it's not my fault, it's the UI's. Sad thing is, I think the game is massively customizable, but it's something I have not done or seen yet because it's not in the UI.

The standard quick mission options seem lacking. For instance dogfighting on free flight maps: if i'm doing Tobruk, there seems to be only water or flat desert for this option. Or if I want to start on the ground, sure, I can, but only on the cross-country mission. Which I found out online, because the UI didn't tell me. To practice a cold start, it seems I'd have to commit to a full on mission. Another thing for new players that i'm missing, which leads to some seriously enjoyable research on the real life aircraft, is basic differences between versions of aircraft. Or even some basic stats. Yes, you all know a BF109 has a high climb rate, but as a newcomer.... Well, I enjoyed the researching, so it's not that much of an issue.

Except for the bit about aircraft statistics, or looking up real life info on aricraft, I find every alt-tab a sign of lacking UI design. It's immersion breaking. Cruising menus might be too, but at least you're in the game's environment and atmosphere.

I saw the question and decided to share my thoughts as a new player as a lot of you seem deep in. Otherwise I wouldn't have dropped this on the forum. In other words, I don't mean it as negative towards the developers in any way. I've no clue on modding and realize every engine is different and brings different challenges. Also I'm not one to have an opinion on the choices of where things are heading with development. It's a great game so far. ?️

Great post. As you say, most of us are deep in. Entrenched (in more ways than one). Nice to see a well considered new users perspective. This is what TFS need to read, not all our blabbering.

Agreed. Great post with no jaded eyes or agenda, main suggestion, a proper Quick Mission Builder.

The mission editor is very simple for cold start setups (besides the first time you open it, but you'll get used to it pretty soon as with most window applications - only a matter of recognising what is what).

You can also drop attached files into "..Documents\1C SoftClub\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover\mission\quick" and fly any flyable from these 6 airfields with a cold start and some ambient ai pilots.

(only Leisure if you stay out of enemy airspace)

Edit: missed a few images, redownload if you miss them.

Thanks a lot! I'll try it right now :)

Edit: wonderful, this is perfect! Did you (or someone else) create these in the mission editor? If so i'm quietly wondering why these are not in the base game :) I'll dive into the mission builder ASAP. Thanks again! Off practicing take-offs in my Spit!

I made them in the editor with a little notepad mayhem in the mis file afterwards (will probably not showup properly in the editor, but the csharp files can be good guides for those looking into that sort of stuff).

Edit: Actually, Buzzaw if you find them usable please feel free to add them. Consider them donated free to use/alter/modify no credits needed.
