Sudden FPS drops, re-establish after clicking on the screen

Been a while since i've been here, didn't play much but always updated the game, so i'm on the latest version.

Wanted to have a go today but encountered a problem.

All fine, entering the cockpit, game runs smooth, normally capped at 60 FPS but tried 120 (monitors refresh rate) and unlimited too.

After a minute or two, the screen suddenly goes black for a short moment, comes back on and then the FPS has dropped to 10 FPS.
The only way to revert is by clicking the mouse on the screen, screen goes black again briefly and then when it comes back, FPS is re-established to what it was before the issue.
 

It looks like the game seems to lose focus (dual monitor setup, one for the game, the other for whatever) like one clicks outside the game window and then regains focus when i click back on the game screen but i'm 100% sure i didn't do that (turned the 2nd monitor off) and the game is setup to run full screen.

 

Same happens in the menu and there i was busy looking up some settings so the game was in focus when all of a sudden... black screen for a sec, big FPS drop, click with the mouse, black screen for a sec, all fine again.

 

Anybody any clue?

 

Specs: i7 4770K, GTX3080Ti...

 

Edit:
Alt-tabbing creates the same problem when another program is open. If no other program is open there is no problem (independed on the monitor it runs on).
Problem: At least Thrustmaster TARGET normally always need to run in the background.
