on a different engine than RoF.

Il2 GB is based on engine made for ROF, during those years it was developed further and  they changed it's name, but still it's based on that old one. Just evolution not the new one.

I know that, but it's very different today than it was in 2009.

No surprise. It is just 13 years later. I would probably not be here if there had been no change at all ?

And this is not to say that it doesn't need MASSIVE improvement if IL-2 is to remain top dog.

I7 10700K / 3070.

I noticed a drop in speed during d day (beachhead attacks).

Cpu dilation was to be expected, its sad but oh well, I've seen worse drops in Kuban and Stalingrad with dense front.

I'm backtracking from my previous comment.

I played another beachhead attack in the BON career yesterday, I think it was June 9th. And it was so slow, almost unplayable. Never seen the game slow down that much before. At this point it was almost funny. Or not.

I confirm that this problem exists in all campaigns on all maps. If you select a high density in the mission, then we get a "slow motion movie" that you don't want to play at all. The quality of the graphics does not affect this at all. (Raizen pro 1700x, 1660 su, 16 gbt).

You are going to be pleasantly surprised either way, but don't be afraid to consider swapping that 7600x for the more affordable 5800x3d with the 3d vcache. You'll find the am4 motherboards and good cl14 ddr4 ram are more affordable still and basically just as good as ryzen 7000 until the ryzen 7000x3d chips come out.

I chose am5 with the expectation that they will release ryzen 7000 3d chache cpus in the future. Dont wanna buy a dead end socket. If someone has still an am4 then it is not worth it to go am5 right now, but I need a new mainboard anyways. Cheap ddr5 is good enough for now and we will see surely better and cheaper ones in the future. I struggled to decide between a 5800x3d and the 7600x, but the recent 650 boards and the crucial budget ddr5, which are not bad in comparison, pulled me over to the newer platform

You're going to be very surprised at the new performance. I like your reasoning too. As I was already on AM4, the 5800X3D was a no brainer.
