Picchio Posted September 21, 2022 Posted September 21, 2022 Hello team, I've been wondering: has the possibility of a per-module (BoS, BoM, BoK, FC, TC etc.) install ever been taken into consideration? At the moment, the install (Steam, at least) seems to force every module to be installed regardless of license ownership and does not offer any space-saving option for the user.
CountZero Posted September 21, 2022 Posted September 21, 2022 (edited) You need to have whole game, how would you fight AI or other humans in MP if your game dont have all airplanes or objects, and how would you play online on maps you dont own if you dont have them in game, and so on... also i doubt any game today dont have everything and only unlocks what your acount bought. So its normal the way it works now, you have to have whole game no mather if you only buy one DLC and have no intent to get anything els. I hope that when they finish decal squadron markings for airplanes that they will remove all official skins exept clean ones, or make that as separate download option, that would free up 15-20GB. Picchio Posted September 21, 2022 Author Posted September 21, 2022 (edited) Maps could very well be separated in case one doesn't wish to use them, as well as data of aircraft that one doesn't own. Edited September 21, 2022 by Picchio

As CountZero points out, maps cannot be separated because all maps are available in multiplayer. Similarly for aircraft. There's nothing stopping multiplayer (or singleplayer for that matter) mission makers from doing e.g. a late-war eastern front scenario with BoN luftwaffe aircraft, the Yaks from BoS and BoK and a couple of collector planes. That means that in order to play that mission, everyone needs to have all those aircraft. Some data could be saved if the cockpits aren't downloaded for aircraft the player doesn't own, but frankly that's a lot of work for relatively little savings.
Picchio Posted September 26, 2022 Author Posted September 26, 2022 I think it would be a very reasonable option for those who don't play multiplayer on every possible map. I mean no disrespect towards you, but the devs should decide on the proposals to implement, not the occasional community member that happens to comment on one.

I think they have already decided. The current method is much easier for them to manage, so that is what they went with. 1

It is the Devs who decide. I'm sure they've made a cost-benefit analysis of the costs of maintaining separate versions and the fact that many multiplayer servers would become unusable for occasional MP users, versus the benifits of having perhaps 10GB less on what is, by its stated system requirements, a 55GB game. Yes, I am just a community member who happens to comment, but so are you. In this case, the Devs seem to agree more with my viewpoint than yours
MisterSmith Posted September 26, 2022 Posted September 26, 2022 Considering we are more than a decade into development and this would directly affect their income strategy, I doubt this will be reconsidered. Smith
Picchio Posted September 27, 2022 Author Posted September 27, 2022 Don't mean to argue beyond what's stricly necessary so I'll conclude with this: it could be reconsidered exactly because of the fact that the sim is growing considerably.
CountZero Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 (edited) And thats why i think skins are where you save space, if you look there is about 20GB of its files, and you basicly need only one or two (for allied airplanes) per type as default skin, when you have working decals for tactical numbers, other skins can then be optional to download. Other parts of game have to be on all players game instal, skins are not important then and take huge amount of space for nothing. Edited September 27, 2022 by CountZero
