Steam users need a exit from Steam

I am not going to pretend I know how the contract with Steam is written. But the service has proved to be very unreliable. When I bought the game,  I seriously didn't know where else I could buy it.

I have every theater of the game.  Almost every premium plane. Some bought thru Steam, the rest bought thru IL2 once I knew better. Only things I do not have are the Ju-52, C-47, and Flying Circus.

But when Steam can't keep their act together, it's just wasted money. There has to be some way to allow steam players a way out.

Trust me, no other purchase will ever come thru steam. I just wish I knew better sooner.

This is like the first time in ages that steam wont let a player in.

These things happen. Even in high availability enviroments you have to expect a few hours of downtime per year. I have since 2016 almost 6000 hours in IL-2 over steam and can count the downtimes with two hands.

unfortunate and anoying, but totally normal.

Its the second time in a week Sheriff. It was fixed late Saturday thru Sunday and then suddenly, same issue again.   I purchased the game and should be able to at least fly offline if steam can't keep their garbage together.

I really wish I had bought directly from the Dev team. Lesson learned and absolutely 0 content will be purchased through steam in the future.

It’s very annoying, I agree.

I have a workaround that works for me.

I have a win 10 machine and a reverb G2

the workaround allows access to all purchased content.

1. create a shortcut from within your IL2 Steam folder and copy it onto your desk top

2. open windows mixed reality window . My Steam VR Home window opens at the same time.

3. Close the steam VR window

4. Put your headset on and navigate to your desktop window in the WMR virtual room.

5. click on the IL2 shortcut from within the room

6. IL2 will load and you will be asked for your IL2 account password.

7. log in and IL2 will load and all your purchased content will be available.

when you exit you will be taken back to the Steam VR room. Don’t bother clicking on the IL2 button in the Steam VR room to see if it will work, the game will just crash after loading as per the current issue.

tried it half a dozen times and it works consistently

I can launch IL2 without steam. The problem is, only non steam content is available.  Which is why nothing will be purchased thru steam in the future.

This was originally posted in suggestions.  Mods moved it I assume. But wasn't intended as a complaint. I would pay a reasonable fee to rebuy the content without Steam. Making it all available.  But I can not afford 50 to 80 dollars per expansion.  I mean, I already bought it. So selling it to me again at a discount is just free money for them. Unless I am missing something.

If you have the same set up as I do your steam content will be available if you follow the steps I took to launch the game.

Steam VR is still launched using my workaround. But it doesn’t lock up or crash.

Si tiene la misma configuración que yo, su contenido de Steam estará disponible si sigue los pasos que tomé para iniciar el juego.

Steam VR todavía se inicia con mi solución alternativa. Pero no se bloquea ni se bloquea.

I have tried your method, I also have G2 but it doesn't work for me...

Well, I don't use steam VR. First difference. VR is an Oculus, not sure which brand you, possible second difference. But when I get home, I will try and see.

Before I did this I’d gone through a number of permutations.

I uninstalled all my 3rd party mods using the Jonesoft app.
I ran a file integrity check from within steam. Twice…

No change.
I then copied and saved my input folder. In prep for a reinstall.

next step was to uninstall and reinstall IL2 in Steam. Once installed I copied over and pasted my input folder back into the game and reinstalled all my 3rd party mods.

I think if you’ve already tried going in directly through steam or steam VR to start the sim you may need to reboot. Can’t recall if I did this, but think I did.

I have a Reverb G2 as stated in my original post. Sorry matey but I can’t help you if you have an oculus.

1C has resolved the issue (there was a change in Steam security, and they had to update their server to be compatible).

?

uninstalling and reinstalling plus the file integrity checks must have cleared some crud from my original install as the cockpit graphics seem sharper and the whole thing is a bit more fluid.

Time not entirely wasted.....
