Rjel Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 I'm sure this isn't the first video of a V1 kill posted here but I was pleased to finally nail one. Just seeing it and then catching it was tough. Getting it with my first burst was further pleasing to me. I think the team really nailed the explosion special effect for the V1 very well. It looks very much like the actual WWII era guncam that usually gets shown in any V1 documentary. That clip shows the V1 getting hit from the six o'clock position of the attacking fighter. A huge explosion right in front of the following fighter, engulfing it as it passes through the remains of the flying bomb. I think my video mimics that pretty well. Your opinion, as always, may well vary. Anyway, what follows is the same kill, shown from three different views. Nothing special, just a quick video for anyone who hasn't seen the V1 scattered to the winds. 4
AndyJWest Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 The trick is to get in really close. That way you don't have to land your plane afterwards. ? 2

Given this picture of a Mosquito purportedly damaged after blowing up a V1, to me that says it might not be the better option. ? Imagine the heat flash those pilots experienced! 1
tribal50 Posted September 16, 2022 Posted September 16, 2022 What was the max speed of this V1 rocket?

As for its speed, I've seen different figures quoted, in the range 340-400 mph, though these may be average operational speeds rather than a hypothetical maximum.
Rjel Posted September 16, 2022 Author Posted September 16, 2022 As you can see below, I was doing about 420-430 mph after my dive and I was gaining on the V1. I've flown several other times chasing them where I didn't have the speed to catch them while doing 350+. 1 1
