Repost from the subreddit, I'd figure I'd get more traction here.

Hey y'all, I just got a new stick and throttle, vr set up, and I'm looking to get back into IL2 multiplayer. (VKB NXT EVO is a great stick, for those who are curious)

I only have BOS right now (with LA-5 and FW 190 A-3), and I am looking for the module that will get me the most bang for my buck performance wise in multiplayer. What would y'all suggest? I prefer Allies planes, mostly Soviets and American planes. I'm not into Axis nearly as much, but I will play them if playercount demands it.

I'd recommend BoN for the West as it has a great mix of interesting aircraft (Premium)

Flying Circus Vol.2 as the entire mentality for flying a WWI aircraft, the way one approaches air-combat manoeuvres - is completely unique.

Moscow as it has the Mig-3, I-16 and Bf-109E... all a very different experience from the late war aircraft. If you like Mountain flying or the P-39... Kuban is the way to go... if you really like clouds casting light over Prairies or the Ju-87... then Stalingrad is beautiful.  My advice would be to get one for now and then wait until the others are on sale and get everything then :)

One has to get used to the idea of having less ammo and less speed, but more deft manoeuvring, if one wants to enjoy these early/mid-war scenarios. If you start off with  BoN or BoBP it'll take you a bit of patience to get used to the different pace - but it is honestly just as much (or even more fun).

Consider picking up some Collector Aircraft:

I'd go for variety here - The collector plane only U-2VS, transport aircraft (Ju-52 and Li-2) also provide very unique experiences. As do the Hs-129, P-38, Ar-234 (but may be cheaper if bought as part of a Premium edition BoK, BoBP, and BoN).

For fighters, the Fw-190A3 is very different from the other Fw-190s (and may actually be worth it). The Mc.202 has a higher roll rate than the Bf-109 and turns sharply but has nasty stall charactersitics. The La-5, Hurricane, P-40, and Fw-190D9 are all substantially different. I'm very much looking forward to the IAR-80/81 (should be a good opponent for the I-16 and a neat ground attack light fighter).

All of them so you have the freedom to use all plane sets

I posted the same response on Reddit.  Buy BoN.  It’s the hottest part of IL-2 MP right now, and the planes you get work for any 44/45 western front scenarios.  It’s discounted slightly right now, but won’t be again for a long time.

BoN + BoS gives you some viable options for almost any WW2 mp scenario.  Add the other packs and collectors later on when sales pop up.

Consider the following:

  • Kuban standard: Yak7B and A20 (the best allied bomber in the game atm) are often available.
  • BoBp Premium: Has the best performing western fighters, the p38 is often available in mid war missions thus making it worth getting.
  • BoN Standard: right now the hottest toy for MP, its planes are often used right now. (if you want the spit14 get premium instead).

Some planes to consider for western front:

  • Hurricane MK2 (used in early war missions).
  • SpitfireVB (used in early war missions).

Some planes to consider for eastern front (not played as much right now due to the release of BoN):

  • La5FN (A monster of a plane, think La5s8 but on steroids).
  • Yak 9 (standard yak 9 is one of the better soviet props, very well rounded)

If I had to pick one module to buy id say get BoN either premium or standard right now, and get the rest during a sale.

Hey all,

I decided to get Battle of Normandy, and I'm quite happy with my purchase! The map is great and the planes I've flown so far are great on the Allies side.

Ill get the rest of the packs on sale as well as all the Soviet and Allied collectors planes when those are on sale.
