Normandy Maps - Brain Cramp

Recommended Posts

Just trying to sort out the Normandy maps. In QMB you have two options, Normandy Summer 44 and Normandy D-Day, I'm fine with that. Now, in the FME, for the GUI maps there are Normandy Summer and Normandy Summer Early. In the terrain presets you get Normandy D-Day and Normandy Summer. So I'm assuming (bad idea) that the Summer Early GUI maps goes with the Normandy D-Day presets, and that the correct airfield group to use would be the early version? Not sure why I can't wrap my head around this (insert brain cramp here), and maybe it really doesn't matter.

Hmm ... I've been assuming it as being the other way round. To say it's less than clear would be a big understatement but I've been taking it that Summer early refers to the 'build up' to D-Day & Summer refres to D-Day itself.

If I'm wrong then that could explain why I've wasted nearly 2 days trying to get AI wingmen to take off from Manston. ?

The difference is in the airfield scenery. The D-Day/Early map only has the airfields that were there before D-Day. The Summer map also has airfields that were constructed by the Allies in Normandy.

Yes and No. The first part is right and the 2nd is not

So it is confusing but it's like this;

Normandy - Summer - Early presets = Normandy D-Day GUI = No Allied airfields in Normandy before, up to and shortly after D-Day

Normandy - Summer presets = Normandy Summer GUI = Allied airfields in Normandy

I did have it wrong then and looks like I’ve been using the wrong GUI with the wrong map.

Confusing indeed and thankyou for the explanation.

:good:

So if you set up a mission template with the Normandy-summer-early / D-Day settings, you have to delete the airfields_late group after you import the airfields. I'm not sure why it was done that way, but that's just how it is for now.

My concern with the errors in the template files is more about the multiple missing block models for the V1. I will report that issue.

Object(2527:Block) >> no model file! : graphics\blocks\v1_compstation.mgm
