Mind the cloud!

Can you turn up the heat?

Why did that idiot shoot at us?

How much did you say this cost?

What's that smell, have you been smoking?

Can we drop by my mum with these magazines?

Can you please make the world be like DOWN again?

What mods/settings did you use to do this?

I think he flew for the Russians and chose "women pilot" in the settings.

Hm..... Looks like only a few Russian planes can use "women pilot", so I have no idea how he did it. :scratch_one-s_head:

If you unpack the one of the gtps (scripts, I think), you'll find a bunch of files starting with "botpilot_" in luascripts\worldobjects\bots. If you copy the contents of one of the Soviet female ones (like botpilot_lagg3_femrus43.txt) into another one, you'll see the Soviet female pilot in any planes that use that pilot figure instead of the usual one.

For instance, replace "botpilot_il2_rus43.txt" and you'll have female Il-2 pilots--which there actually were, I'm not sure why they limited the female pilot options to the Yak-1b and Po-2.  Women flew plenty of the Soviet types we have as far as I know. Not to mention most of the US, British, and German types, although not in front line service.

"botpilot_lagg3_femruswi.txt" isn't bad for non-Soviet female pilots, since her coat covers up her Soviet uniform, although she's a little short to see over the instrument panel on some of the WWI planes. Also be warned that the female Po-2 pilots don't have parachutes.

EDIT: Turns out there are a couple steps missing here--you have to change a couple lines in the copy-and-pasted file before it'll work. Full explanation (and a zip with the girl Mosquito copilot done for you) in this post below:

Thank you! Those long Channel flights just got more interesting.

Where can I find this? Do I need any special tools to access this?

Download unGTP from the link above and drag the .gtp you want to extract onto unGTP.exe. UnGTP will automatically extract all files in that .gtp to Il-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\(null)\, where they will be ignored by the game and therefore can be safely messed with. Modify whatever files you want there, then copy them to the corresponding place in the main data folder--same path, but without the (null) folder.* Once you've done that, they will be recognized by the game as long as it's in "mods on" mode and loaded over the vanilla files. Some, such as flight model files, are protected by a checksum and won't be loaded as mods, but the "botpilot_" files currently OK to mod.

For instance, when you extract (I think) scripts.gtp, you will find the "botpilot_" files in Il-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\(null)\luascripts\worldobjects\bots. They should end up in Il-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\luascripts\worldobjects\bots.

Hope this helps!

*Or set them up as a JGSME mod, which makes it easier to revert if you foul things up. I don't use JGSME so I can't tell you how, but I think it's pretty easy.

I'm missing something. I tried copy and paste. Put the file under the correct path. Enabled mods. But I get an empty seat next to me. I can only see my copilot when I get an external view of the cockpit (like with the pilot).

Haven't done it myself in a while, might have told you a wrong step somewhere. Will investigate.

PS. Yep, looks like I missed a step--you have to make a small edit to the file after the copy and paste. Will update instructions as soon as I've tested it.

@Spidey002 OK, here we go. There's one small edit to make once you've pasted the contents of the female botpilot file into the other one.

Go back to the original file (might have to extract it again) and find a line near the top that starts with "CloseSphere=". You'll notice that line is missing from the new file--copy it over from the old to the new, in the same position. In our case that line is "CloseSphere=0.0,0.0,0.0,0.02    //Overriding default model CloseSphere setting", and it should be placed at the end of the "PhysicsBody properties" section, right after "kfgroup="fighters"".

Now she should show up both inside and outside the cockpit.

Or, if you've had enough fiddling with data files for one day, you can just extract the contents of this zip to your Il-2 root folder:

girl_mosquito_copilot.zip

Edited by Hotaru_Ito
Removed unnecessary extra step. Only the CloseSphere line needs to be changed.

Thank you!

I’ll use this as a reference, but I’m happy to fiddle. Was going to make multiple co-pilots, using all the Russian plane variations to see which one I liked best for this.

It occurs to me that using the Po-2 gunner one might work "out of the box" without having to do that edit. (Haven't tested, just speculating.) The problem was that the LaGG-3 one was supposed to be a pilot, i. e. never visible except in external view, and we had to make the game register her as a gunner to show up in the cockpit.

On the other hand, the reason I didn't even try that one was because the Po-2 ones don't have parachutes, so use at your own risk. Or your girlfriend-copilot's risk anyway.
