BoN compared to the other Normandy maps

Skaycat1969, the Mount St. Michel you have in DCS is better modeled and looks more similar to the real one, and it is part of the map.

The picture you show can be considered at the lowest tide. At high tide (in the 1940's) the Mount St. Michel becomes an island. In my picture it is still connected by a thin dirt road which means that we are not at the highest tide, but we can imagine it as an island.

My picture shows a model that I built with the objects that we have available in the IL2 Editor and so it is the best approximation I could come with. From afar it looks okay but if you fly near to it then clearly there are big differences. This also means that you will not see it in the BoN game. In the stock version of the map the place is just an empty patch of land.

Btw. The biggest issue I noticed is that the British side of the channel isn't modelled to 1940s standards. In almost all cases important ground targets like rail targets and harbours match present day maps That and the lack of hedges.

I had hoped that they would release a small 1942-1943 Channel Map plane back (Operation Jubilee centred) in order to fund continued work on the map. It looks like we are getting the early Spitfire IXc as a Collector Plane and new map technology though - so this now seems unlikely.

Seeing what some people in the comunity are doing to upgrade the bodenplatte map, Im sure if someone took the time they coud do alot to make the normandy map more like a 1942 map. ? i already saw someone do a winter mod for it ?

Yeah, it would be nice if there was a pathway for these unofficial efforts to become official.

I actually learned how to use the tools - but we don't know the status of existing maps in continued development of the engine at this point (i.e. whether they will still be supported, whether they will be revised).

That's the big issue with unsupported tools. You can easily invest a helluva lot of time creating something that in theory could be wiped out in an instant, the one of the next update. The editor is a risk we take. And there has been in the past some issues with new versions that needed to do some reworking. We are all walking on a razor sharp edge.?
