fjacobsen Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 Having selected one of the advanced QMB "V1 intercept" missions, I have a hard time spotting them. What altitude do the V's cruise at ? I have read that they had a max altitude of 10.000 ft, but normally cruised at 2000-3000 ft. In one mission I spawned at 13.000 ft, so I guess I have to descend quite a bit. The radar reports seems quite imprecise and not very helpfull. I have only seen them two times, idicated by a dark smoke trail, but too far way to intercept. And tips are appreciated 1
AndyJWest Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 Spotting is always going to be difficult, as they are small and fast moving. And to have any chance of shooting down, you need to start well above them, so you can turn and dive. You might consider using icons, at least until you get the hang of spotting them (or, if like me your eyesight isn't what it used to be ☹️). It's only necessary to scan a relatively small area, since there is no point in looking for them anywhere you can't realistically intercept. I've just shot one down at 3,500 ft, though I think their altitude varies a bit. As for the 'radar report' I suspect this gives a lot more information than real pilots got: I'm not sure they had anything to go on beyond the knowledge that V-1s were being launched. 1
migmadmarine Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 I have read mentions of intercepting them over land and using the tracer of light AAA to point them out.
EAF19_Marsh Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 On my list of things to do! So much BoN to explore, so little time. BTW, can I give a shout out to Jim Sheddan’s ‘Tempest Pilot’ and Desmond Scott’s ‘Typhoon Pilot’ as great reads for people wanting to get into the RAF operations on this map.
Jaegermeister Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 I cruise in towards a known launch corridor at about 10,000 feet and watch for anything coming towards me from below. It's a little easier to spot them over the water. I go into a diving turn and keep the V-1 on my nose, at full rpm and about 90% throttle. They are generally around 5,000 feet at that point. If I can pull in behind one at 400+ mph, I reduce throttle to avoid overshooting. Once I catch up, I will generally have to go to full throttle in WEP power to keep pace with it if trying to tip it over in the Mustang. It should be very similar in the Spitfire XIV, but I haven't done much in that yet. The other option is to cruise around over English airspace and watch for the AAA bracketing the V-1 over the coast. Then you can dive in on them, just be prepared for them to be going full speed.
Customizer171 Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 There is a message in the game about watching the "radar map" to localize the V1. Is this the regular in game map or a special map? If the regular map, I could not see any V1 on that one. If special, where do I find it?

You will get a red arrow with a red plane icon giving you the approximate location and heading. If you gat get in front of that arrow before the V1 passed through it, you can perhaps spot it there and dive in on it. 1
sevenless Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 (edited) Now that we have V1s in the Great Battles series, I would love to see them also integrated into BoBP and unleashed on Antwerp. That would give us the possibility to fly NoBall and Anti-Diver missions in BoBP. V2ROCKET.COM Antwerp: City of Sudden Death Edited September 9, 2022 by sevenless 3
