Popular Post Jason_Williams Posted September 8, 2022 Popular Post Posted September 8, 2022 Hello everyone, A true historical figure has passed. On behalf of the Sturmovik Team I want to send our condolences to our many British and Commonwealth customers and partners. You don't have to be a royalist to understand she lead a remarkable life and her passing is one more link to the WWII era gone. Her passing makes me further reflect on the gigantic contribution the British military made during WWII including battles like Normandy which we remember and re-enact this week with the release of BON. I was able to get to Buckingham Palace on my trip researching the Tempest and as a history lover it was a memorable time for me. We wish all our friends in the United Kingdom and British Commonwealth the very best. ❤️ Jason*No politics please. 37 15 18

Avimimus Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 The Queen is dead. Long live the King! She definitely had her moments. There is the story of how a Quebecois monarchist was created when she stopped to get his truck going again during the war - and insisted on saluting him because he was a higher rank. I think an aspect of this which American may find it hard to understand is that, regardless of who sits on the throne, the Constitutional Monarchy has major impacts on the laws and Constitutional interpretations in Commonwealth countries (for instance, the concept of 'the honour of the Crown' has proven very important for First Nations/Indigenous people in Canada's Supreme Court). Gradually as things like the 'unwritten constitution' get eroded - it is useful to look at how our institutions have evolved, and how we gradually turned what had been a terrifyingly absolutist divine right monarchy in the Tudor era into an concepts that provides checks and balances on some of the more unethical actions our country might take. The monarchy is both a monument to itself and a monument to all of those who have tried and succeeded in checking absolute power, it has become a symbol of checks and balances, moderation. Which is quite remarkable. So I am hoping it survives, even if it'll be a bit strange to see a man on the back of our coins all of a sudden. 4

I'll avoid endorsing the existence of Canada's constitutional system further or the role the Monarchy plays in it. I did feel something had to be said though - she means so much more to us than just herself as an individual or even just her role as a public figure. It is hard not to acknowledge that in some way. 2
Raptorattacker Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 I am English. I am not particularly Monarchist but the death of our Queen, Elizabeth II, has unexpectedly hit me harder than I ever would have expected. I'm 60 years old (61 in 8 days!) and I have never known a life without this remarkable woman somewhere in it. What struck me (and Mrs Rap as well) this afternoon was remembering our Grandparents, particularly our Grandmothers who all adored her without exception and with much reverence. Then there were our Grandfathers, who all fought for the freedom of the country she went on to rule for 70 years and 214 days and who also respected her in a way that only people of their generation could do. Rest in Peace Elizabeth. You will be missed, I know that now. 11 1
I./JG52_Woutwocampe Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 She was a great woman with a great sense of humour. Rip. 1
Majpalmer Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 I was pushing two when the Queen ascended to the throne. I don't remember living without her ... there. It is the end of an era. RIP In a way, she's always been a link, at least in my mind, to the Second World War. Like my Father and Uncle, and almost all of the veterans that I've ever known, they're all gone. I know that not everyone feels her passing the same way (I've seen some truly nasty stuff on Twitter), but for those who do grieve her passing in the UK and the Commonwealth, my condolences. 1 2

I grieve her passing and I am from the USA. I think a fine human being and sad to see her leave us. Just last night when I heard she was sick I was thinking how she connected us to so much in the past.
senseispcc Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 Death is the obligatory ends for us all, still it is sad!
Mike2945 Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 On her 21st birthday in April 1947 the then Princess Elizabeth broadcast to the British Commonwealth and the (then) Empire saying: 'It's very simple; I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service'. 70 years on, her commitment to her duty above everything else was never in doubt. Surrounded by self-serving politicians and greedy businessmen and their empty promises, this lady's was for keeps. How lucky we have been! 4
EAF19_Marsh Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 Nice one, Heliopause, 2 great ladies in one pic.
BOO Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 Bad analogy but it feels like the badge has been removed from the radiator grill. We will never see the like again. 1
RyanR Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 It's definitely a bit solemn to fly BoN over England after the news came out. -Ryan

Gambit21 Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 Watch “A Royal Night Out” I saw it a few years ago and enjoyed it. A young Elizabeth and Margaret out on the town at War’s end.
Tonester Posted September 15, 2022 Posted September 15, 2022 God love our Queen, long live the King….from a staunch colonial monarchist!
ST_Catchov Posted September 15, 2022 Posted September 15, 2022 No-one does pomp and circumcision like the Brits. It's fantastic. But for God's sake don't give King Charles III a leaky pen. Respect Ma'am always. 5

And thats what my missues will be doing for the foreseable. Monarchist or not, we've lost a steadying hand on the tiller.

Fellow pilots... please know the following (mainly for possessors of "Cliffs of Dover - Blitz"): Sadly, I'll be absent, though. Long live the king.
