First of all the map is very well done and I really have the feeling of flying above my country well done team.

I have a question the airbase of Conches en Ouche is missing on both version of the map is there a particuliar reason??

Conches en ouches.jpg

Probably because so many other airfields had to be built, and this one in particular would have been used by just one unit during the Normandy campaign (and it's an AI unit at that in career mode - III./SG 4).

In any case, maybe there will be a situation like with the Rhineland map where a few new airfields were added after the initial release. ?

After flying several missions, I am very impressed with the map and associated career mode.  Clearly a lot of hard work went into creating this.  Normandy is a substantial upgrade over Boldenplatte in terms of map quality and detail.  Towns and cities look much more natural now and bland nicely into the rural areas and the overall textures are nicer and more varied to mention just a few improvements.

Congratulations to the dev team!  I really appricate the work you do.

My only suggestion would be to add a few more of the existing farms in some areas that lack them since they add interest to the empty rural areas.  Also, there is a small white mushroom that is common to in heavily wooded areas in northern France that seems to be missing and should be added as a top priority!  (Just kidding)

Fantastic work and the feel of it is great.  Nice having new mission types in AQMB even if I can't yet catch the V1s.

In my iron man career my Mossie got shot down in flames and I bailed out over occupied France and while I landed on dry ground I expected a short trip to a PoW camp. Instead, next morning I was back at base in Blighty ready for the next mission. Incredible attention to detail to programme in the French Resistance smuggling out downed pilots ?

Aircraft DM: RHA equivalent of the aircraft skin has been reduced nearly three times to the previous (wrong) values.  Does  this mean they changed the values to what they consider to wrong values?   Or the previous values were 3x times too high??

The previous values were 3x too high.

How you chosen the V1 for Ai  ?? I not have on the list ... ( Q. mission)

Its one of the missions you can choose in QM's.

I do enjoy the new map, but have yet to find any missions which highlight the invasion fleet or any of the new warships 9 like the Fletcher destroyers.) or any of the new landing craft, soldiers, or vehicles in action on the beaches or elsewhere. Have I just not flown the right combination of things in QMB or do I have to wait for some talented Mission Builder to build some  fully populated  missions or scripted campaigns?

The landing craft appear in the beachhead attack missions in career, it was stated that the radar picket ship there was not quite ready in time so it's coming in a subsequent update a couple pages ago.

So there are career for Normandy maps already? Cool- will check it out.

Howdy All, full disclosure, I'm a Yank that lives in the Pacific Northwest.....Never been to the UK. (Tho I have been to Normandy)  I'm old enough to have watched the film "The Battle of Britain" when it came out in theatres and have had tremendous respect for Churchill's "Few."  So it was a thrill...hmm not the right word.  Honor? To take my kite over the briny to splash a couple of cabbage crates.  I am probable in the minority but my kite of choice is the Hurri. Absolutely love that plane Dang! You Brits sure got that one right!

Finally, in view of today's news, a sad day for my UK brothers and sisters, may I add..

God save the Queen!

Long live the King!

Yep!!  I just strafed the beachhead at Juno and Sword in my FW190 BoN career.  Obviously, not as crowded as RL (I am playing on medium density), but was still amazing seeing the landing craft churning to the shore and the Tommy infantry headed inland.  Destroyers and barrage balloons were there too!  Somehow we missed the running into the Allied Cap - honestly felt like that scene from the Longest Day - "The Luftwaffe has had it's Great Moment."  We have 2 more missions still upcoming on D-Day, will be interesting to see how the beach head progresses (and if I survive).

I also found the 500 year old Inn/Farmhouse where I once stayed next to the bridge at Le Fiere right there on our map.  Awesome work to the entire Team!! :salute:

Well, never once had an issue with this game in all the years I've been playing but it does nothing but crash to desktop now.

Corrected folder properties, uninstalled and reinstalled nothing works. This is the only program I have an issue with now.

Do you have the mission file? It's in /data/missions and is called _gen.mission.

I'm looking at  the mission files (ProgramFiles(x86)/steam/steamapps/common/IL2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad/data/missions/_gen.missions)  but I'm not sure which one it is.   The mission was in a Brit P-51B and after the linkup with the Typhoons we turned south and the target was over 200 miles distance.  I think 235.  That was the first time over the years I had seen a target that far away. We crossed the Cherbourg Peninsula  and the target was on the next peninsula just off the map. I kept getting the red banner at the top telling me I was leaving the map area.

It's inside the map. They actually took the time to model the airbase at Pontorson, right next to it. The island of Mont Saint Michel is actually in the game, you can fly over it, they just didn't model the buildings or the main rock formation.

I understand we can't make every single town and church in Normandy, but this is one of the most important monuments in the whole of France. It's like doing Paris without the Eiffel Tower ?

Mont Saint Michel, or rather its location, is on the edge of the map (south and west), and therefore does not have a crucial role or importance, in my opinion.

I invite you to fly over Cherbourg and the Fort du Roule, Etretat and the Aiguille Creuse, Falaise and its Castle, Caen and its harbour and its Castle, Amiens and its cathedral, etc...

In short, many objects specific to the Normandy map have been created and are well present.

I have no doubt that if the Mont Saint Michel had been a central point of this map (one could imagine an opus "beyond the D Day", or the operations in Brittany for example), that it would have been detailed.

Maybe it will be later (or not), in the meantime enjoy this new opus

Have a good flight

Are you playing on Steam? do you have your Steam account linked to your IL2 account? this will be required before it shows ingame.

Negative steam... Even deleting the "updates" files doesn't seem to solve the problem.

How more details how more immersive the game is, thanks for this judicious remark! :salute:

Steam needs the purchase key to implement any game and this "Normandy battle" is a new game! But do not worry the game can still work in standalone and in Stean! :salute:

The "Bocage" is important only if your are on the ground and not using the roads ! For airplanes , trees or houses etc are more a problem and there you could ask for all the phone or telegraph poles and lines or even the water towers? But then you could ask for a 1944 survey of the terrain and send a time travelers team to record all the details without being shot at by the two sides of the conflict going on at the time! Difficult but maybe possible in a future if we do not destroy the planet before those time..:salute:.

Thank you Devs! I am very impressed by the Normandy map. The waves breaking along the shoreline near the White Cliffs of Dover look fantastic and are a real treat. To have both pre and post D-Day maps available opens up plenty of opportunities. The Devs have done a great job from the little I have had a chance to see so far. I built a simple cross channel mission in the editor and it all worked very well. I look forward to exploring the map further in the days ahead.

I've only had the opportunity to spend about an hour roaming the map. Good stuff! Having flown back and forth from the UK to continental EU many times, I'd say this is the best representation of the area ever seen in any sim. Maybe the water looks a littler darker from up high IRL, but that could be the time and weather settings I've tried so far. The ground textures look very nice indeed, IMO.

This looks like your IL2 is blocked by Antivirus. You have to set an exeption in the antivirus for il2.

Hello, I have this problem with "BoN". I have this kind of problems since an update of "Bodenplatte" when I play in multiplayer. I don't remember this kind of crash when I fly "solo". Before "BoN" this kind of small window was only displayed very very briefly (a bit like a flash). I never had time to take a screenshot. In "Bodenplatte" I had found a solution, uncheck the box "Distant Building". So this box was unchecked last night for this first network flight. I will redo solo flight tests but with this box checked. Well, if anyone has a solution... thanks in advance. Please excuse my google english :) Buzz

Hey gentlemen and devs, it is a great work and this map hav been waited for! Thanks for the work and love that was invested and will be invested.

one thing:

Is it possible to add the villages and corresponding airfields like they are in Cliffs of Dover? This would add even more detail into that map.

thx in advance

Cheers

This is an indication that the game ran out of memory. How much VRAM your graphics card has?

Yes, it is possible to add your own villages or airfields:

Just copy all of them and put them in a .zip file, then post it here. (10 files with _gen at the beginning)

Alternatively, post what country, squadron and date it is and it can be recreated.

The quality of the Normandy maps is much better than the last one at least for me. Excellent work and thanks to all the dev team for their efforts.

The sea is a sea with waves and not a big lake with mud color. The color of the sea is also excellent. The open sea has waves, but a protected harbor does not have waves, and this is an excellent improvement of the Kuban and Rheinland maps. I just hope that the Kuban map will be improved on the harbor sea wave difference, as it was the best map before Normandy. I suppose that this is what the mapmaking technology at its limits could do. Still issues to iron out on the map but one thing that was for me very visually annoying on the Rheinland map was the cities that were erased when you looked from your cockpit in another direction, and when looking back towards the city it had disappeared and would have to be redrawn in patches and that was really annoying. Here with the Normandy map, we do not have this effect anymore and I applaud that.

We have a large choice of planes that are well into that period. And the V1 is an excellent addition. We should get I hope the C47 in flyable mode and that would be the perfect cherry on the cake.

Another excellent improvement is the new Gleaves class destroyer that is completely manned and with a high-quality visual finish, and same for all the other ships that come with Normandy. We have manned barges that do open, infantry, and multiple new objects and vehicles, and better quality of destroyed ship models. Ships that beach have been well designed and act accordingly. More to come with later updates I suppose as some ships and vehicles were shown earlier as WIP and are not yet here.

Conclusion, Normandy is a MUST HAVE in your BOX collection.

Now a personal request here, please, update the ships of Kuban to be also manned and with a normal stopping when hitting the sand beach. Kuban is not outdated and with high mountains covered in snow and deep valleys (the only map that have them) and a large sea offers a completely complementary and different scenario to all the rest. It would make sense to revamp the Kuban map and its ships. It is not a too much effort that would capitalize on what has already been invested and can give a boost in sales and high longevity to that excellent map and battle.

6GB video RAM should be enough, but it looks like you have only 8GB of system RAM. Try to close memory hungry processes like Chrome before running the game and make sure you have at least several GB of free disk space (for Windows memory swapping). And consider increasing your system RAM to 16 or even 32GB because 8GB won't be enough for most modern games.

I've not checked yet but are you able to do V1 intercepts in the Mosquito? They had the second highest kill tally behind the Tempest and ahead of the Spit XIV.

Rivers - or lack thereof. Although my initial impression of the map where somewhat muted, Ive spent 2 days poncing about in it and gererally being very pleased. There was something though that felt off....took me a while but its rivers. There aint many of them. Now I dont expect every stickleback stream and creek to be there but they are pretty sparsely represented epecially given their use as nav aids in the absence of other landmarks away from the airfields and major towns.

I apologize if this is not in the right area to report, I struggle at times to place my comments in the appropriate location in the forums.  First off, the Normandy Map is Awesome!!!  Thank you and great work by the development team!!!  I have a few comments to get me started with this map, just need better understanding of what we are working with.

1. The late airfields do not have any runways or taxiways, or even grass strip markings... they only show the structures placed around an open area without any indication of a working airfield.

1a. There are also "Land Command" MCUs at these airfields, that are not linked to anything so they show up as errors when validating

2. The fortifications have M272 guns placed inside, they appear only graphics and are non-functioning... no way to get them to activate and attack?  Example the fortifications just west of Normandy beach head.  Will this be coming in a future update?

3. The floating bridges at Normandy dont allow to place vehicles and artillery on them.  The ships also like the fortification M272 guns appear only to be graphics, don't allow for activating or attack.  Will this be coming in a future update so that landing can be simulated?

Quite possible I am missing something, appreciate any feedback to help me better understand!

Thanks Dave!!!

Post this on the bugs forum, might be seen by the fixers there easier. I reported LC and other missing mgm items there.

BTW the M272 and other firing points need a special setup;  i got them working thanks Tip's posted working group.

I fell for upgrading my PC twice now within 3 years. (could use my old game PC for office and audio work).

Costly affair if you want a smoothly running game with excellent graphics., so it's a good thing to invest at least in a little over the minimum hardware required.

Ok,

Ok I'll look for things I can do. But what amazes me is that everything always worked beautifully (with all graphics settings at maximum) until a Bodenplatte update. And I always had a doubt, I believe that during this update there was a very short internet outage. Could this be the cause of these problems? Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Steam: integrity check, IL2 direct: delete the updates folder for the same process .. run the launcher then.

French isnt my language, so I maybe am misunderstanding but oddly here it appears to be saying you have 16Gb of system RAM as opposed to the earlier post showing 8Gb. You could try reducing your settings just to see if it makes a difference as well as trying jollyjacks comments above especially as your comment re internet outage

Hmmm…I started a Typhoon 6th of June D-Day career last night & the first mission was a bombing sortie against a target near Utah Beach. Mission started late on that day( troops were already ashore,) but no invasion craft were to be seen& after a diversionary flight over Omaha I still saw no activity off shore. I was ,  however met with Luftwaffe fighters ….

Boohwhaa, no pity for the trains caught in the open with no tree lined protected rails.  Is it me or do those staff cars really put the hammer down now that they're forced in the open, swear that guy in the staff car was doing 80, but it didn't save him.  Nice having miles of open emergency auxiliary landing strips.

Maybe you started alternative D-Day, where fleet was sunk and LW fighters were defending beachheads... i highly doubt there will be any mission with invasion fleet in career mod, some user made missions will probably try to recreat small parts of it if you will have strong PC to run them.

Hello, yes, I have 16Gb of RAM. I just tried 2 or 3 flights in "quick start" mode with the graphics settings high and there were no problems. In fact there are never any problems when I fly solo. It's only in multiplayer. I'm going to lower some settings and do a multiplayer flight to see. I will uncheck the box "distant buildings" among others.
To what Jollyjack says: I don't have STEAM for IL2. So if I understand correctly I delete the Updates folder and I relaunch the Launcher. Correct? As I said at the beginning, Computer and me... it's difficult :) So stupid question, if I delete the Updates folder, the launcher will restart from which update?
Well I'm going to do this flight to test. Thank you for your answers.
