Guys,

Just remember that our update servers will be hit pretty hard on this one, so have patience please on the update.

Jason

Congratulations and thanks to everyone in the IL-2 team for accomplishing this very special and expansive milestone! what a feat! also a shout out to all the beta testers, researchers, supporters and skinners for their input and feedback with the map, the squadrons, skins but importantly also the damage model improvements for which we can all enjoy now.

Long live IL-2 Sturmovik... in all of its glory in this third (edited by Jason) generation!

It really is amazing to think about how far things have come over the years, reminiscing all the way back to when that Ace Expansion Pack (Normandy map and Western Expansion Pack) was introduced in the first generation of IL-2 all those years ago...

Many thanks,

Aurora

Guys, be sure to check out all the new skins that were added - many new generics were added not just for the Normandy planes but older ones as well, going all the way back to the Fw 190 A-3 and Ju 87. ?

Awesome.

I am looking forward to trying out the new damage model upon some of the aircraft Flying Circus. The change to pilot deaths on emergency landings is welcome also. I guess colour me a touch disappointed that based on this image Lee-On-Solent was excluded from being added as an airfield on the Normandy map. Seems important enough to me given that it's where the Air Spotting Pool (26, 63, 808, 885, 886, 897 Squadrons and VCS7) for the invasion was based (using Seafire 3 and Spitfire 5).

The changelog in the post seems to be a bit incomplete! I had no idea so many were added!

Downloading now. Planning on getting up at 4 am to have a look. I've been hanging out for this release, I've kept my mouth shut because, well, whining and pestering is annoying and I'm too old and ugly to behave like a toddler. I'm actually really interested to see how my home town, and indeed, my house, has been represented. Yes, yes. I know the actual streets etc won't be directly matched but I'm planning to have a tank battle in 'my' street, defend my house from dastardly hun bombers and  checking out the pier before it burned down.

Good job getting this done, team. I know it wasn't easy. I'll be forgiving of any early glitches, this is a big update really - much more than just the map. After a lot of hours, I've been finding the career mode a little same-y so this should give my IL2 playing a whole new lease of life. As much as I enjoy DCS, I was hugely disappointed that my home town was completely missing on their Channel map, just a set of generic fields. And now IL2 looks so great, with the atmosphere/cloud/lighting updates last year, I'm expecting to be flying IL2 almost exclusively for a while ?  Yes, I know looks aren't everything but I work in design, so I'm a bit picky and if a sim doesn't look good I find it hard to suspend disbelief.

A huge congratulations to the team for this release. You've had to deal with the Four Horsemen while developing BoN, yet not only did you succeed in getting it out, but you do so with panache ?

It came in fast for me in the UK a few minutes ago.

Great work team! I've been with IL-2 since 2001 and never dreamed it would become this good.

Great update on paper ... BUT ... 1st impressions are exactly as I feared. There isn't one single hedgerow on the map that I've thus far seen. I'm a native englishman who lives in a country where hedgerows & fields are the most dominant feature of the landscape by far. Neatly placed trees do not make up a hedgerow in the slightest and therefore, it's basically a default generic IL-2 map like Velkie or Prokhorovka but with white cliffs. The south of England is a patchwork of small fields surrounded hedgerows which by far supercede trees. And this would've been 'even more' relevant in the mid 40's.

And the sea colour ... no no no. Seldom blue except on postcards & a trip to 'photoshop'.

Very disappointed indeed but in 1C's defence, DCS Channel map is pretty much the same, not 'quite' as bad as this. Even Cliffs of Dover map was much closer and more authentic than this.

This is very akin to the old 'Birds of Prey' map.

I guess I knew what I was buying into though with the availability of screenshots but I still held my hope that the representation would have been at least, mildly representative of the theatre they're wishing to depict.

Loving the new skins & everything else that 'isn't' UK map-related.
