FTC_Passion Posted September 6, 2022 Posted September 6, 2022 Hi does anyone know if its possible to control a gunner position on an aircraft with an X+Y axis rather than a mouse. As in just moving the actual gun rather than the gunners head. Thanks
BOO Posted September 6, 2022 Posted September 6, 2022 I can only recall acheiving it via a program like Joy 2 Key. I also remember its was less than useful.

Thanks for the quick reply. Can you use joy 2 key along side a mouse? I want to make a controller for a gunner position but as BoX only lets you use the mouse for the gunner it will Need a bit of problem solving. Thankfully CLOD let's you assign an axis for gunner movement so I'm OK there.

I used the mouse emulation for controlling the gun in Tank crews but i cant remember if i could use a mouse at the same tiime. J2K isnt free either so perhpas have a look first with Joystick Grelin or something. Good luck
Sokol1 Posted September 7, 2022 Posted September 7, 2022 Since you can't assign axis for the controls in game GUI, need use Joytokey (or similar) for emulate mouse movement with the axes - of a joystick, mini-stick, PS like gamepad... I've tested this and find not useful, you end fighting with the springs in the X, Y axes device. Of all games I've played since Warbirds 1.xx "hay days" the only game with correct support for control turret with axes was CLod and only for Fiat BR.20 upper turret. Are able, for example to use rudder pedal for turn the turret and joystick Y axis for elevation, but since the resulting movement was not like players are used do with mouse in other games- mouse up, gun up, mouse down, gun down, but like in a real turret: stick back, gun up, stick ahead, gun down (like a plane), they complain (since Clod release) that axes are inverted, and TF in attempt in fix this broken the correct axes support, and now don't worth use axes for Fiat Br.20 anymore.
FTC_Passion Posted September 7, 2022 Author Posted September 7, 2022 (edited) Thanks V Much for your input Sokol. Fighting the spring won't be issue. The controller will be unsprung. I'm thinking something that looks feels like the back end of a browning 303. As long as it feels more realistic in VR. I made some of my game controllers like yoke and throttle and as I predominantly fly bombers I want something more imersive for the gunners controls. It will be on a swivel with hall sensors recording the X and Y axis. I can use J2K to have this controller emulate a mouse but can I still my regular mouse for the map Screen etc, or will there be a conflict? Edited September 7, 2022 by FTC_Passion
