Too bad the USA site doesn't deliver outside the US...The price is very interesting

Posted

I got one at that price here in the US back in July. I have to say I'm quite pleased with the upgrade visually over the RiftS the G2 replaced. The sweet spot is small but I've adapted to it.

WMR itself in still getting used to. Don't like that I can't pin any active window to VR easily like I could with Oculus. Haven't figured that out yet.

Biggest peeve I have is the lack of ability to buy a spare cable. The cable was a major problem with the V1. The V2 has a different cable that fixed (supposedly) that issue but I still thought it was a good idea to get a spare just in case. I had one for the RiftS and never ended up needing it. Good thing too as Oculus stopped making them right after that. The cable wasn't available when I bought the G2. Hadn't at that point been available for many months and doesn't seem to be coming back to stock anytime soon. Is it discontinued? I reached out to HP in hopes of buying one. They said sure we have them available in our parts dept..... for almost twice as much! $160 for a cable! That's just nuts. I'm hoping that sitch changes. It's a great headset but these proprietary cables are plainly the Achilles heal.

Reverb G2 hard to beat especially at this sale price.

Use the windows key on your controller to load a program and then there's a pin on the window frame to keep it there when you return to the game. Similar but clunkier than the Oculus system. The ease of doing this and the simplicity of the passthrough view (without "flashlights" and crap) are the two things I miss from Oculus.

Note: if you don't have a controller then win-Y to change WMR focus and use the Win key on your keyboard and your mouse to place the window. And this latter bit is a feature I used to wish Oculus had.

Second note: for overlaying reference material and notes in VR OpenKneeboard is an awesome addon worth looking at.

Ya I pad $600 for my set. $399 is an amazing deal on the HP website. I think all EU buys are hit by Vat taxes making it 2x the price.

Not so simple. VAT is usually between 16-24% depending on nation, so hardly 100% that would be needed to double the price. For b2b/purchases with a registered VAT ID you don't pay taxes for certain inter-EU transactions.

What does greatly affect the price is mostly corporate policy and secondary international trade agreements regarding customs charges and tariffs and naturally after the last 2 years the whole supply chain/shipping debacle.

Don't forget that the EUR is currently at a 20 year low... probably also a factor here.

$400 incl controllers sounds like a pretty sweet deal - cheapest I can find over here at the moment is €570. Which still isn't too bad, considering what you're getting.

HP's German website want €649 ... yikes!

Didn't seem to affect prices downwards when it was >1.2 to a dollar last year and once more it was on sale for $399 in the States. Rarely has currency price factored much in the equation of tech prices around here - only to drive them upwards if it suits.

Well the price hasn't changed much in Europe, which is my point. Even now that the currency is at a disadvantage it's pretty much the same as it was months ago and very similar to the price I remember it being a year ago. Once in a while there are sales from retailers (but never direct-from-HP as is the case in the US) that drive it below the 500 euro mark; in fact I got mine during such a sale a little over a year ago.

I hope they're cheaper in Japan, I've given my UK one to my daughter. Funny how the EU and UK get so badly reamed by US producers.

299US today, Black Friday sales.

I paid €744 from Bestware this week. Slightly deflated.

True, only 2x the cost of a replacement v2 cable on eBay since the HP store still doesn’t have them in stock.

I’m on my 2nd, spare v2 cable, probably why I’ll replace my G2 with something like the Pimax Crystal, hoping this v2 cable lasts until then ?

Ha! - Its actually gone up in price in the UK by £83.00 in a month. The equvalent of $816!! or nearly 3 times the price in the US. Unjustifiable.  Black friday my bottom!.
