Excellent reference material for short bursts used by gunner defence for bombers. I am under the impression that the game currently models long stream of bullets and not short bursts.

Overall this channel is fantastic to learn about how bombers work and defend themselves. I am more of a fighter type, but still found these very instructional.

That would be an incorrect impression.

If you guys sort out what historical doctrine would actually be - I might restart my gunner mod. I'd actually started converting my knowledge from Rise of Flight to BoX but ended up halting because I didn't have the time and patience to put into balancing it at the time :)

The neat thing is though - I found a way to make it so that I can assign a separate AI 'doctrine' for each gunner position. So, I can have Front gunners fire at longer ranges than rear gunners, or make the Il-2 UB gunner conserve his 150 rounds by firing in short bursts only etc. The same thing is true with the B-25 - I can make the dorsal gunner respond differently to aircraft than the ventral gunner (adjusting burst size, responsiveness etc.)

However, we'd need to figure out what would actually be realistic - through looking at combat footage or historical accounts.

P.S. I also modded it so that tanks can use their main guns to engage aircraft - which was a fun throwback to the original Il-2... although I disabled the mod pretty quickly after a run in with a group of BT-7 with their higher rates of fire ?
