Youtch Posted August 27, 2022 Posted August 27, 2022 After playing the game for almost 2 year, I noticed very recently that just after take off, while making my first turn over the airstrip, there is a strong and long roaring noise as if another heavy propeller plane was coming from behind. I noticed it first with Bf110g2 while playing the excellent night campaign. When all is dark, you put an extra focus on any noise, and when i first detected it, I was initially convinced that it was another plane taking off after me in the darkness, but checking all cameras, I realize i was alone and that this noise was systematic after take off. I came to the conclusion that it might be a mechanical component of Bf110. But, now i transitionned to Me262, took off in full day, made my first turn and here came the exact same long roaring noise. What is it? Is it some type of echo or reverb just after take off? Has anyone noticed it?
migmadmarine Posted August 27, 2022 Posted August 27, 2022 Might you be making your turn too slow and be getting the buffeting noise from high AOA?
Youtch Posted August 27, 2022 Author Posted August 27, 2022 High AOA does make roaring noise. This sounds more like an echo/reverb of engine noise.
[CPT]Crunch Posted August 28, 2022 Posted August 28, 2022 In a real aircraft I'd suspect the gyroscopic effect of the still spinning wheels on the landing gear once you bank, takes a bit till they slow rotation, and a sudden bank after lift off will cause shudder especially still in transit up to the wells. 1

Yep. that's what it is. Tap the brakes right after lift off and it goes away. 1
Youtch Posted August 28, 2022 Author Posted August 28, 2022 If it is the case and it has been modelled, chapeau. I will try. It is quite a powerful noise, once you became aware of it. It felt like a low frequency vibration, as if a chopter was passing close behind. It last 5 to 10 seconds usually and goes away.
Vortice Posted August 29, 2022 Posted August 29, 2022 Merely echoes of the Nuremberg Reichsparteitag roaring you on to a glorious victory kamerad. Triumph Des Willens and all that.
EAF19_Marsh Posted August 29, 2022 Posted August 29, 2022 Closing the undercarriage with the wheels still rotating might make a noise of protesting tires? Not sure whether that is included.
[CPT]Crunch Posted August 29, 2022 Posted August 29, 2022 Not so much raising them, but the banking that can make them go nuts while they still have plenty of rotational speed. Like trying to force a gyro, they're going to resist the change, and wheel has a lot of mass. I've seen crewmen panic in Herc's who've never experienced this phenomenon before, it literally feels like the flight deck is about to rattle apart, happens right under the seats, and it happens fast, they don't know and aren't ready. Was always good for a chuckle.
Youtch Posted August 29, 2022 Author Posted August 29, 2022 But the question is if it is modelled in the game. I got the same roaring after take off with Arado 234 today and i was flying in straight line. Has anyone else noticed it, just a little after take off, when you are like 20 to 50m high.
FlyingH Posted August 29, 2022 Posted August 29, 2022 Don´t you tap the brakes after leaving the ground? I thought that was common sence to do! 1

Never thought of that, but now when you say it, it certainly makes sense and I will start doing it. Thanks for the advice!
Rjel Posted August 30, 2022 Posted August 30, 2022 (edited) I thought that in some cases that wasn’t recommended as it might cause hot brakes to seize? In RL that is. Edited August 30, 2022 by Rjel

In the Case of the P-51 at least, That is the case. I also believe some aircraft have wheel wells specifically designed to stop the spin of wheels as they retract, but don't quote me on that

Do you run this mod? I was experiencing this same sound anomaly, sounding like I had an A20 behind me after take off. After deleting the above mod, the sound effects returned to normal. 1

I don t have this mod, but this mod is a collection of mod, maybe one of the mod is what is causing this, like the radio chatter. Many thanks!!! Edited September 3, 2022 by Youtch

Lots of the same effects are used for multiple things in game. Start changing effects and sounds for one thing and end up Messing up something else. The game's effects are deliberately designed to maintain that balance of reused assets. Regardless, whenever you're having issues with a piece of software you've modded, removing all mods should be step one. regardless of how much you think "Oh this shouldn't affect THAT" 1
