Track IR Intermittently Locks in IL2 but fine in TIR itself

This is an old issue I have had for at least a couple of years but recently speaking to other pilots I am not the only one experiencing it.

Use Case:

  • Playing in IL2 - everything fine
  • Next time I spawn TIR is frozen - I cant look around - everything else ok.
  • I tab out to the TIR app and its all working fine ther - I can look around.
  • Back to IL2 - TIR still locked out. As soon as I Padlock a target (Enemy or friendly aircraft or Ground target) TIR works fine again.
  • Next spawn may be fine or may be locked out again.

It's very frustrating, I have tried everything I can to fix it including reinstalls.

Same here. Happens occasionally. Didn't actually know about the padlock workaround. Have to try it out.

Just to be sure I understand this. Are you saying I should run TIR as administrator - I don't do that currently?

If so, what does that do, how might it fix the issue?

All I know its that its a commonly touted solution for many games that perhaps has an effect more in fullscreen applications.  It worked when my TIR went squiify in DCS and stopped responding in game repeatedly. After that, I stopped thinking about it.  Since running in admin (for several years) its been solid.  Starting TIR in admin prior to the game also appears to be an important step. I use a batch file to avoid forgetting.

In my case I suspect it has a lot to do with the fact I run my game exe's as an administrator (again old habits from way back) but its quick to try and simple to reverse.

If you're willing to indulge further hoodoo, ensuring that power saving is switches off on the usb hubs in device manager may also be a thing. Again its something Ive always done without really thinking why.

Sorry I cant inform you better.

It makes it easier for running programs to communicate with each other. Some users do not seem to have this problem, others do. Like Boo said, give it a try. Run both TIR and IL2 with admin privileges.

I don't use Track IR but I did have similar issues in Open Track.

Solution:

IL2 uses the 1st 4 cores.

Once Open Track/ TrackIR is running.

Open Task Manager and go to Details tab.

Right click tracker and select "Set Affinity"

Untick CPU 0-3 for OpenTrack and aitrack (In your case Track IR and maybe any other related processes)

The down side is you have to do this each time you run Track IR but works in Open Track for me. Smooth as a baby if I do that. Stutters or freezes every time the game gets busy if I forget to do it.
