Foreseeable discounts(?)

Started playing DCS but I'm rather disappointed with it for various reasons. I assume IL-2 would bring more actions in-game instead of youtubing/googling/combatting game engine? I'm saddened to see that I have "woken up" few months too late as the summer sales are long gone. Right now I would probably buy rather many modules if they were on sale. But it's hard to justify the cost of the base-game at current price. Really sad that there isn't trial/demo or something..

Anyway is there any way to be updated with sales? Of course there is steam wishlist but I think I have too many titles there =)

There will be another sale. They have them often.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is a sale around Labor Day, either 'just because' or (hopefully) to support the Battle of Normandy official release.

Looking over the IL-2 Sturmovik Facebook page, here is a general schedule of sale events from this time last year through the remainder of 2021:

- Summer Sale 2.0, August 11 to August 25 (Webstore and Steam).

- Summer Sale 2.0, extended to August 31 (Webstore only).

- Labor Day Sale, September 3 to September 7 (Webstore Exclusive).

- 50% Off Promo Codes!, September 13 to September 30 (Webstore).

- Halloween Sale, October 21 to November 4 (Webstore and Steam).

- Promo Codes! 50% Off, November 10 to November 23 (Webstore).

- Annual Autumn Black Friday Sale, November 24 to December 1 (Webstore and Steam).

- Annual Winter Sale, December 22, 2021 to January 5, 2022 (Webstore and Steam).

- Winter Sale Extended! 30% - 85% Off until January 12, 2022 (Webstore Only).

On the other hand - some things which are currently pre-orders will go up in price for a bit once released.

So it depends on what you want, and how patient you are able to be :)

This list is diamond. Thank you.

For the moment I'm not so interested in pre-orders since I don't even own the base-game ?

Regarding pre-orders, it might be a more interesting offer for you than you think.

- All aircraft for BoN are released already, so if you own BoN you can already fly them right now. One small free map is included with the game, and all maps are playable in multiplayer regardless of what modules one owns (but you are limited to the aircraft you own).

- The release date is just around the corner, being stated as "at least two weeks" by a developer last friday, but probably (hopefully!) not *much* longer than that. If you like the BoN planes and/or map, waiting 2 weeks might be worth the $10 discount.

If you don't really have any preference for the Normandy planes or map, waiting for a discount might be worth it (I've seen BoS going for as little as €7 on Steam). However, if you like what Normandy offers and plan to buy it anyhow, you might be better off buying it right now to profit from the Early Access discount.

Also worth noting: "Base game" only applies to Steam where you have to buy Battle of Stalingrad first and then everything else is DLC. If you buy only from the website, you can start with *any of the "Battle of..." titles, or Flying Circus or Tank Crew. Here each title is considered full-fledged, complete sim that you can interconnect as you choose. I think most people start with Steam though, and mix-and-match content from Steam DLC and from the webstore within that platform.

Edit: * = Normandy and Flying Circus Volume Two are in Early Access status and at this time you will need one of the completed games, preferably Bodenplatte or Flying Circus Volume One respectively, to fully enjoy either of the EA titles.

One more tip for buying in bulk from the official store.

A lot of the planes that come extra with the Premium versions, are very good and popular. (FW-190A3, LA-5, Spitfire MkV, P-38, FW-190D9, Spitfire Mk XIV, Arado Blitz, etc)

Have a good look what comes in standard version and what planes come in Premium. If you want the planes that come in premium, during sale you get better price per plane if you buy the Premium version, instead of buying the Standard version and then the premium planes as standalone.

Thanks for posting this @Eraseri! I'm also in the same boat as you. Watched Tom Gun Maverick, decided to get into flight sims so I tried DCS - it's a great game, super detailed and everything but I'd rather spend my time shooting down planes and stuff rather than study Chuck's guide just to be able to start up my own plane, so I decided to buy Il2, but unfortunately, I missed the Summer Sales by only a few days. Looked through the sale history of this game, I thought for sure there'd be sales this month ?

Don't get me wrong, I'm pretty sure that this game is worth it at full price, but it'd just suck to buy it for $49 only for it to be like $7 a week later...

I found biggest problem to be the game engine and tutorials in-game. How have you liked IL-2 so far?

Haven't watched Top Gun yet but actually wanting to see! I was very doubtful of it until I saw IMDB-ratings and applauds from my 60'year old mom - total surprise ?

I can almost guarantee there will be a labor day sale along with the Normandy release then or shortly after.

If I were you, I'd pre-order it and pick up the rest on sale then. Stalingrad is also dirt cheap usually.

And even if there isn't, the next sale won't be far away. There's usually some kind of sale every 2 months or something :)

Both IL2 and DCS are simulators, so both have steep learning curves. I don't have personal experience flying DCS, but IL2 is generally considered a bit easier as it simplifies some procedures for playability reasons. Starting up your plane is just a single button click ;)(note: IL2 only simplifies some procedures; its flight model purports to be realistic, as does DCS's. No War Thunder fantasy here.)

And yeah, you're quite right to wait for a sale. Although, again, if you're interested in the Normandy planes and map, it might be interesting to buy right now as I don't expect any meaningful Normandy sales for the next 2 years or so.

Yeah, I agree the tutorials in DCS could be much better! I haven't tried IL-2 yet, I'm about to try it now in fact haha. You should def watch Top Gun, it's pretty cheesy but it's 2 hours of non-stop fun ? Just make sure to watch it in Dolby Cinema or IMAX if it's still airing in your country!

I'm really stoked to start playing IL-2! DCS is fun, but it's more of a study sim so I found it a bit hard to get into, especially after a long day at work, and yeah War Thunder is way too arcadey haha. A very nice user just gifted me BoS, so I'll start with that first and during the the next sale I'll pick up the other theaters. I think that'll keep me occupied for a bit, and if I enjoy the game, then I'll get Normandy for sure ?

Sniff, it's labor day and no sales it seems. ?    I just wonder how I can stay tuned of sales with email if there is possibility? I'm on a work trip many weeks to come and might miss one if there is any.

I have subscribed to news and information and wonder whether that is the channel.

If you're on Steam, you can add IL2 to your wishlist. That'll automatically send you an email once a sale starts.

I'm dying for a sale too! I bought the BoS and the Normandy Preorder but I'd go hog wild with some encouragement!

FYI, if you buy any of the expansions on the IL2 website, you don't need the base game to play.  That's only if you buy it on Steam.  I know I'm two months late telling you this--but perhaps it will help others who hit this chat stream.

Still dying and waiting ?    From North-european point of view the upcoming Halloween is something that should stay away from here but if there's a sale I welcome it ?

Black friday coming soon! Let's see what it brings. I have my hopes up! ?

Looks like they already discounted the lot. Battle of Normandy $47,99. Was it $59.99 (with a striked 69.99) yesterday? Will they get even lower on Cyber Monday?

Probably not, but -20% for modul that is finished 2-3 months ago is big discount, maybe -33% next year early spring or late winter, here is this autumn sale anouncment:
