• Although still officially neutral, a Brazilian B-25 attacks and damages U-155, killing one crewman and forcing a return to base. Earlier in the year, Brazil purchased twelve P-36s, eight A-19s, two B-18s, and six B-25s from the United States to replace the 1920s vintage aircraft of the Força Aérea Brasileira. By 1943 Brazil will also receive A-28 Hudsons and PBY Catalinas via lend-lease.
