Drano Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 So I've had the G2 for a month or so when it went on sale. No issues with it at all. Loving it actually. Reading up on it I saw there were problems with the original version of the cable so I thought, even tho I have the new cable version, it might be a good idea to grab a spare. I had a RiftS prior and did the same thing with that. Never ended up needing it but it was a good thing I bought it when I did as they haven't been available at all for quite some time and likely won't ever be. I see on the HP sales page it's listed for $89. Been out of stock apparently for months. No luck elsewhere on the net that I'd trust not selling me a V1 cable or worse, a used V1 cable. So I reached out to HP. Convo went like this: They told me, no problem we have one in stock in our parts store. Great! Can I put the order in for you now? Sure! OK that'll be $186. Whoa! Whoa! Waitaminit! It says on your site it's $89? Yeah that's our sales page, parts is different. Naturally, I wasn't buying a cable at that price. $89 was bad enough but it was insurance against a very expensive paper weight without it. Bothers me as there was a known issue with these that they "fixed" and it looks like almost immediately stopped making the cable, tho they don't say that. Was probably available for a year when it was in stock. This was the same problem I had with Oculus that almost immediately stopped supporting the RiftS and making their cables for it. Anyone have any luck with buying one of these? Anyone have the new model cables failing on them?
Charlo-VR Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 I had to replace my original, v1 cable within four months of getting the newly-released Reverb G2. That replacement v1 cable also failed after a few weeks and I was then sent a v2 cable that has been working fine ever since. Because of my experience with the v1 cables, and since the v2 cables were always out of stock when they were first released, I scoured Craigslist for anyone selling just the v2 cable so I could have a spare. I found someone selling their v2 cable about an hour away (a perk of living in a major metropolitan area). I haven’t had to use it but I’m glad it’s in my garage. Damn, tho - that’s ridiculous HP still can’t keep those v2 cables in stock!
