Support for Tobii Eye Tracking.

I have also tried to set up Tobii 5 with FaceTrackNoIR as described above, but my headview keeps "drifting" to the right, no matter what settings I try.
I really hope the developers will add native support for Tobii, it would be so great!

I need to update the tutorial, but I’ve learned a bit more over the last couple weeks - I found that setting smoothing to 5 or so, in FaceTrackNoIR makes a huge difference in DCS. It removes a small amount of stutter. IL2 already has built in camera smoothing, so it’s not necessary.

Just a huge thank you for the tutorial on how to get this working! Tobii ET5 is so great in MSFS and DCS that I hated not having it in IL-2. I have a Reverb G2, but there are times I don't want to dive into VR.

I really hope that the IL-2 team works with Tobii to add native implementation. I was super-disappointed to see that the previous support had been dropped. Given how sims are such a core usage scenario for the device, it'd certainly be nice to see the best WW1/WW2 sim out there supported.

Wanted to bump this up with the hope that there was some news I haven't seen about getting Tobii integrated natively.  I really wanted to get back in to IL-2 after some time away and did a cursory check to see if Tobii was supported and it looked like it was, but after I bought Normandy, I realized quickly it wasn't anymore.

This isn't a post complaining or anything, just a little bummed and hoping there was rumblings I haven't seen.

You guys still haven't been able to get it working? I've been running mine with tobii 5 on and off for quite some time now with no issues. It was no less than 30 min since last.

You had a look at the videos and tried it with FaceTrackNoIr?

I did see that and I was about to use it, but I learned that you have to revert the Tobii drivers back and it will break other things you use it for i.e. DCS, MSFS, and Star Citizen.

Since I already have it installed I can give it a go. I haven't played DCS in quite some time but I still have it installed :)

Not trying to be a bother, just wanted to see if there was any news on this front.

Thanks!

I'll ask again. ?

It looks like proper support for this is still being evaluated. The problem in the past was not having enough time to integrate this properly, so I'll let you all know if anything changes with this.

Sorry I can't give a more affirmative answer at this time, but it is what is. ?

It would be great if the devs added native support for the Tobii hardware. I just got one and it's so much easier to use than TrackIR.

Every once in a while I pop in hoping for the the same... I just simply can't go back to looking like a dork! I guess there is no need to put the work if it won't drive sales. When they already have our money - we have no leverage. However once the Pimax 12 X comes out, this will be a moot point.

Hello.

I would like to know if anybody has any experience with TOBII Eye Tracker 5, not necessary in Il-2.

If so could you please tell me if is it worth to get it?

Eye Tracker is currently on sale so I have an itch to get it.

Thanks,

Tom

Thanks Paul.

I think I will stick to Track IR and save some money for next generation of VR gear.

The stormbirds link seems dead, but here's a comparison:

https://www.thresholdx.net/review/trorev

I solved the irritating TrackIR5 clip thing by buying a Trackhat sensor version 2, which works OK with the latest opentrack software v3.2.

It seems also some 40 Pounds cheaper than TrackIR5;

Installation tip: i figured this out due problems ONLY with IL2:

MANUALLY copy from the ... TrackHat opentrack v3\modules\models folder the files NPClient.dll to your Windows/ System32 folder, and NPClient64.dll to.../SysWOW64.

Otherwise IL2 cannot find the drives IMO.

I hope this is being looked into still and it's going to be implemented soon...... I know about the workarounds etc but surely it is worth the devs implementing this? I haven't played the game since I got the Tobii 9 months ago. I really enjoy the game but refuse to use it or buy any more content until it's implemented, forgive me but I don't see how it can be that difficult, 100's of games have native support.

@PluckyUnderdog, the team is just way too busy to work on implementing this right now. Hopefully at some point in the future that changes.

Could you think to reintroduce the support of the use of Tobii 5 in game? Many people have it...and it could be important the possibility to use it in Il-2 (in the past I Know that was implemented..)

It's been discussed, but there aren't any formal plans to add it right now.

Nothing new & wonderful to add.  I would like to see Tobii supported.  But I understand that there are constraints:

1.  You can't run this simulator on a console.  If you want traction in the lucrative U.S./North America market you need to run on the consoles since the "Personal Computer" is now mostly a business computer here.  WW1/2 combat flight simulators are a niche market.  Developers (God bless 'em for hanging in there) are not going to have a lot of spare change for development.

2.  This is not a free-to-play-no-not-really game.  The developers have to keep coming out with new content people will spend money on to keep the cash going.

3.  VR is the dominant trend for viewing control functions.  If I were a developer with limited resources I would probably throw them at clickable cockpit controls to make VR easier to manage in the game.  My hope is that Tobii will get enough market share so that the developers can find the time to implement it.

I have TrackIR and it is fine in a controlled environment the deeper and darker the dungeon the better.  I have moved my gaming rig to the living room with windows lights etc.:  No prayer for TrackIR.  VR seems great but I struggle enough when I can see my joystick/keyboard/throttle quadrant.  So Tobii it is.

Previous post was long enough:  Just thanks to all the contributors for the Tobii/FaceTrackNoIR interface.  I got the latter back in the day before I settled into TrackIR.  It appeals to my weird sense of humor to convert it to FaceTrackAllIRallTheTime.

Hello,

I would also like to humbly request that the devs reconsider adding support for Tobii Eye Tracker 5.

It sounds like the devs have been very busy, and the amount of great content appears to be a testament to all of their hard work.

I very much want to try all of the amazing content for Il-2, especially the Flying Circus modules. However, I bought my Tobii to play Star Citizen, and now I just can't play a flight sim without it.

I picked up Battle for Stalingrad because I wanted to play it with a friend, and I saw Il-2 on the list of Tobii supported games. But, sadly, it seems to no longer be supported and it was frustrating trying to look around with a thumbstick. So, my friend and I decided not to play the game.

I have been waiting and hoping that Tobii support will be added, because I really want to play this wonderful game, and I plan to jump into the game and buy more modules and fly missions with my friend, and probably some Star Citizen org mates who also do not play Il-2 specifically because it does not support their Tobii devices.

Il-2 is the premier WW2 (and now WW1) combat flight sim, and I very much hope that the devs choose to embrace Tobii. I will most definitely start playing it and buying more DLC, and I suspect many others would as well.

Thank you for your consideration.
