Just a short preview on one of the infantry modules I was messing around with.  You can give your missions some immersion and use them  to trip triggers, etc.  One problem I have encountered is they do not face the threat at times, sometimes returning fire in the correct direction but totally facing away.  Still we are moving towards something new here....

cool all that... what is the impact of infantry on CPU workload?

a lot of slowdown when there are many (and when can we consider that there are many?) on the video, they seem to die in "packets"... they are packets of 2, right?

do their shots pose a danger (when crew members stick their heads out of the tank), like stationary MG shots do?

what is their "smartness"? is it the same as the tanks (I shoot and I rush on the enemy, see I go my way without consideration...)

for the moment, there are only US models, or do we also have German models?

Are infantry modules available in the Editor to build our missions?

I thought this was just Jason long term dream and not for the immediate.

He showed some pictures in the Dev Update but I thought this was not for now. If so excellent news then as we cry for them since so many years.

It's sad that only US and UK soldiers are available. We need both Russian and German troops, with summer and winter skins.

Also, as far as I understand, they can neither lie nor crawl..

The most necessary thing is lying soldiers with anti-tank weapons. And some plausible depiction of trenches or other ground cover

They are located within the "Vehicle" object section in the mission builder and as I recall they come in clusters of 5 soldiers each.  I haven't tested out as to the resource drain just yet.  US and British soldiers for now as I believe this is gearing up for Normandy.  They die in clusters only because of the bombardment, but die accordingly if singled out by machine gun fire.  They will fire on targets and I suppose could disperse AT crews from their positions.  The quality of the soldier is very good in my opinion and the movement and death as well.  Like I said, it's a start, but I will have to test out resource drain.

OK!  Hey Modders-Painters, we need some Germans and Russians to go with these.  In Summer and WINTER colors.  Let’s get cracking!!

If we move to normandy with piats, panzerfausts and bazookas, it will be very interesting in that vegetation.

I mean with a Platoon of Shermans, or when the Churchill comes out and having some infantry clusters moving with the tanks will make for some neat immersion, something we've been craving for a long time.  Say 8 Shermans rolling out across a field with 25 or so infantry men moving at the same pace behind them.  Or maybe a cluster of men shifting just inside the woodline to give a panzer a hint of a possible AT position ahead.  I'm excited about working with them if the resource drain is adequate, this opens up so much from the mission making aspect of the game.

Those Americans actually go pretty well with that winter scene.

Love we get infantery and compared to older tank simulators: they look good, can run, walk and sit down and be in fire animation and even death animation of individual soldiers when hit. Okay they seem clumsy but a nice step in the right way, some more updates and add soviet and german infantery as well and its perfect.
To me its nice they add normal infantery, in a american platoon only 2-3 bazookas were included, rest used rifles, bar, tompsons and not much of a threat to tanks.
But hopefully they might add support units: troops that has a bazooka to support the normal infantery.
Soviet troops however would have to do with anti tank rifles. If the infantery is set to prokarovka era then german and brits would had to do with anti tank rifles as well.

for comparison infantery from older tank simulators:

This is really good news for the IL2 franchise. I like the work they seem to be doing with the ground explosions/land deformation too. Here is to hoping TC gets more attention too.

These were my favorite.

there should be the explosive charges to be sent on the tanks by the Russian infantry normally too?

like in the game RED ORCHESTRA.. i used to spend my time running towards the tanks with the charge to blow myself up with the tank.. or blow up the tank and get machine gunned right after... it was fun....

Saw this on finnish server, taken from the forum somewhere where they asked if we will get more infantery, if true then it seems we wont get other nations. I hope its old news and has changed since then:

I think it's more about: don't except any smarter/anti-tank infantry unit.

But I guess there will be a German and Russian version, it's just a matter of a different "skin"

Is there a way a mod can be made to just change the colors of the uniform?  or maybe change the helmet style?

I would say the color maybe, it's a skin. I suppose this has been done for crews by Off_Winters (Tunisa Mod).

But I suppose, that there is no clean Template skin, so changing the skin will be not so easy.

Helmet Style: I suppose not, it is a "3D" part.

With the same process I used to create additional AI vehicles I created German and Russian versions of the Infantry Squad. Retexturing the uniform colors was no problem, but the lack of appropriate 3D models for the helmets and weapons killed the whole project. Given the release of the needed 3D models we could be in business pretty quickly.

I agree with your thinking.  Russians had brown uniforms like the British but it's the helmet that's not looking right.

Although, if the U.S. infantry uniforms got turned into German gray then that wouldn't be so bad.

However, In my missions, I practically only use British infantry to simulate Russian attacks.  Rarely do I include U.S. infantry for Germans.

I wonder what it would cost to crowd fund the 3d models we need for the German and Russian AI Infantry Squads?

Based on today's Korea Developer update they clearly have the talent on staff to produce a few of the old infantry models for us.

With Odessa and Karelia still to come for the old series it might make sense to throw us a bone and create the related infantry ground targets to put into our missions.

Perhaps they'll throw us a few bones in the future.  Great Battles will continue into the future, so, it just makes logical sense to make small updates, occasionally.
